COMPETENCES FOR A SUSTAINABLE FUTURE

COMPETENCES FOR A SUSTAINABLE
When we talk about the green shift or new tech solutions for addressing climate change, we assume, hope, and proclaim engineers and other STEM professionals as the custodians of our smooth transition towards sustainability and net-zero
emissions. But we are stuck in a paradox. On the one hand, politicians and industry are sounding the alarm about the catastrophic shortage of engineers, IT, and STEM talents to address the current and future challenges. On the other hand, it is
unclear what concrete competences and skills the industry needs to drive the green shift. Squeezed in between are the higher education institutions, racing against time to adapt curricula to match the skills provision with the skills demand.

The Sustainable Data Center Transformation: Reducing Carbon Footprint with Liquid Immersion Cooling

whitePaper | May 19, 2022

Data centers leave a significant carbon footprint and, as the need for these mission critical facilities continues to surge, the current trajectory is toward increasing power use and greenhouse gas emissions. Greenhouse gas emissions can contribute to extreme weather and put the health of our planet at risk. There is growing demand from both the public and industry to reduce the environmental impact of all businesses — sustainability has moved into the corporate domain and, due to regulations and the cost implications of reducing a carbon footprint, it can be a hot button issue.

CPUs and Greenhouse Gases: Why Data Center Processor Selection Matters in Achieving Sustainability Goals

whitePaper | August 23, 2022

Data centers are major consumers of electricity, both for powering servers and keeping them cool. Despite the progress that large data center operators have made in improving efficiency, power demand is expected to continue to grow steadily for the foreseeable future. While hyperscale operators have made great strides in shifting to renewable energy sources, the reality is that fossil fuels generate 60% of U.S. electricity

The Incredible ULCS – Ultra Low Cost Solar

whitePaper | August 24, 2023

Urgent action must be taken to accelerate Australia’s progress towards 43 per cent emissions reduction by 2030 and net zero emissions by 2050. Solar photovoltaics (PV) will be one of the most important technologies to achieve decarbonisation of the global energy system, however, a step change in costs is needed to unlock its full potential.

Energy System Efficiency: How to maximise the contribution of consumers to cost-effectively accelerate the clean energy transition

whitePaper | October 21, 2022

smartEn has engaged in an internal exercise to provide answers to these questions. We are convinced that a more efficient energy system is possible, with active consumers at its heart. Consumers must be enabled to contribute to an acceleration towards an efficient, secure and fully decarbonised energy system, instead of being the passive victims of a centralised and fossil-dependent energy system. This is possible if consumers of all types - from households to industrial players.
