These actions laid the foundation for landmark bipartisan climate legislation passed in 2021 known as House Bill 951 (HB 951) which requires North Carolina utilities to reach carbon neutrality by 2050. Simultaneously, North Carolina has invested heavily in diversifying its energy resource mix to include increased amounts of renewable energy sources. These investments have enabled North Carolina businesses to meet their sustainability goals while benefiting from some of the lowest energy costs in the country.
