Traditionally, home solar inverters have had just one key function in support of your home solar installation: They convert the direct current moving out of your solar panels to alternating current your home appliances use. Over the past decade, inverter technology has advanced to add enhanced capabilities like data monitoring, communication, and executive functioning. In these ways, inverters have absolutely become more intelligent. These smarts don’t just help prevent blackouts, they can also save you a significant amount of cash over time. In this article, we introduce you to three ways a smart inverter can save you money: smart charging, standby mode and home energy monitoring.

In the second post in this series, which began by analyzing the opportunities in renewable energy, we'll see how—without code—you can use business rules as an architectural layer to help justify any solar lending project. In part one of this series, I outlined a few of the considerations for community and regional financial institutions (CRFIs) that are considering entering into solar and other renewable energy source lending markets. Next, I’m going to explore a few of the ways that lenders can help prospects to economically justify these projects with Progress Corticon, the digital decisioning software engineered to manage complex rules and calculations, integrate with a countless big data sources, and implement it all without writing a line of code.

Despite advances in technology, the world is still heavily dependent on fossil fuels like coal and oil for energy production. Our lifestyles require a lot of electricity running through our homes, but fossil fuels are finite and will eventually run out. Sunshine, on the other hand, is plentiful and will not run out anytime soon. We can make the decision today to switch to a cleaner and smarter energy solution by using solar panels to power our homes. Here are some of the top ways solar energy is better for the environment.

Apple, Amazon, Google, Facebook, and Microsoft — the five companies that arguably make up “big tech” — say they are either already powered by 100% renewable energy or are close to getting there. Together these companies own and operate more than a hundred data centers (each the size of multiple football fields), close to a thousand offices, and countless other buildings, making them some of the most power-hungry companies in the world. Given this, running on 100% renewable energy is a significant achievement. But there are plenty of critics who argue that these claims are misleading. Some say carbon offsets might do more to assuage guilt than they do to help the environment. To understand where these arguments come from, let’s start with the basics.
