Clean energy is great, but what's the best way to store it?

Not only does the world we live in change around us but our knowledge of that world also changes. It took until 1543 when Copernicus published his planetary model with the sun at the centre that people started viewing the planets differently. JJ Thomson proposed a plum pudding model of the atom in 1904. As a physics student, I chuckled at the silly idea as we knew so much better that atoms consisted of protons, neutrons and electrons. A modern physics student would chuckle at that description with quarks and gluons now recognised as a basic part of the atom. The list goes on. We once thought of Pluto as a planet but it turns out it is now only a dwarf planet. We thought our tongue had a taste map with only four tastes (umami is now the fifth recognised taste).

Renewable Energy Strategies in the Oil and Gas Sector

Article | February 13, 2020

Renewable energy is suddenly taking a very important role in the energy industry; especially solar and wind. In light of this, major players in the oil and gas industry have begun to position themselves for this forecasted energy transition. Major investments by the oil majors into renewable energy has called for the question of whether this is an indication that they are gradually transitioning into energy companies. Also, upon closer study of this trend, it is easy to classify the major players into leaders in renewable energy investment and slackers.

A wave of scientific breakthroughs is going to make solar energy cheaper than energy generated from fossils

Article | February 13, 2020

Human pollution such as burning fossil fuels has been causing global environmental change for decades. Climate change impacts leave us no time to hesitate before taking urgent actions towards a more sustainable life. Going solar can be one of these actions. Luckily, scientists all over the world work on new materials that are going to make solar panels cheaper and more efficient. Australian and Chinese engineers experiment with a crystalline structure perovskite. Though being rather promising, this material is also very fragile. That is why it is planned to be used in tandem with silicon panels, which are more durable.

Is solar or wind a better way to power your home?

Article | February 13, 2020

A growing number of homeowners in the United States are turning to renewable energy sources to provide power for their homes. Solar power systems only need sunlight to power your home and vehicle, recharge large battery systems, and still allow you to sell extra energy to your utility company. Wind power can perform the same functions by producing energy from wind-powered turbines. Both depend on often volatile forces of nature, but overall, solar panels provide more consistent energy. Solar panels don't include moving components, as wind production units do. These and other differences play important roles in deciding which renewable energy option is best for you.

Key Benefits of Implementing AI in the Energy Industry

Article | February 13, 2020

Artificial intelligence is now influencing in every industrial sector. How wonderful it can be to extend the benefits of this technology across industrial sectors that are facing crisis and imbalance of demand and supply all over the world! Energy is one such crucial sector that impacts all the other industries as they use power for their operations. This explains why, according to a recent BIS research report, the global AI market in the energy sector is expected to reach USD 7.79 billion by 2024 (Source). Moreover, research is being done in this sector to find out how the non-renewable sources of energy can be preserved, without creating a shortage in supply for human consumption. The use of renewable sources of energy seems to be the only savior. But, there are several challenges in utilizing renewable sources of energy too!
