How Much Solar Does My Business Really Need?

Article | March 12, 2020

Solar, it’s everywhere. You’ve probably already installed it at home and now you might be looking to invest in it for your business. Something we see far too often in the commercial space is overcapitalisation or oversizing. Our client’s often say, “but Time Solar Installers have offered me a 100kW system and you’re only providing a 75kW system” or “why haven’t you used my entire roof space?”. In this post I’ll explain the ins and outs of how we determine the size of a solar system for commercial businesses so that you’ll be equipped with the tools to ensure you’re not oversizing or over-capitalising!

Key Benefits of Implementing AI in the Energy Industry

Article | March 12, 2020

Artificial intelligence is now influencing in every industrial sector. How wonderful it can be to extend the benefits of this technology across industrial sectors that are facing crisis and imbalance of demand and supply all over the world! Energy is one such crucial sector that impacts all the other industries as they use power for their operations. This explains why, according to a recent BIS research report, the global AI market in the energy sector is expected to reach USD 7.79 billion by 2024 (Source). Moreover, research is being done in this sector to find out how the non-renewable sources of energy can be preserved, without creating a shortage in supply for human consumption. The use of renewable sources of energy seems to be the only savior. But, there are several challenges in utilizing renewable sources of energy too!

This electricity sector strategy could save wallets and ecosystems

Article | March 12, 2020

Electricity is a unique kind of commodity— although it is not perishable, it is (still) hard to store on a large scale. Electricity must be generated relatively close to where it is demanded and at the time it is demanded. Therefore, operators must constantly keep an eye on the use of electricity. When demand is high, operators will signal the generators to increase their output; if less, generators get the instruction to generate less electricity. Roughly, this is how the grid works. The devil is in the details: the flexibility of power plants is unique to its type. Nuclear and coal power plants take the longest to start up and shut down, followed by oil/diesel power plants.

The Next Renewable Energy Source Could Be Rain

Article | March 12, 2020

The quest for the next source of renewable energy is well underway, with no natural phenomenon overlooked. We have already harnessed the power of flowing water, wind, and sunlight, and the search for the next clean source of energy is far from over. The latest potential breakthrough in renewable energy comes in the form of rain. The rain has not been getting a lot of attention in renewable energy circles perhaps because it would be challenging to harness its electricity-producing potential. Yet attempts are being made, and in the latest breakthrough, U.S. and Hong Kong researchers have managed to produce 140 volts of power from one single raindrop. That’s enough to light 100 LED lights for a short while.
