Elgin Energy Response to RESS Design of a New Renewable Electricity Support Scheme

| November 10, 2017

The proposed future Renewable Energy Support Scheme has the potential to deliver low carbon energy at competitive prices to the consumer. Renewable energy projects (primarily wind) have, over the past decade, been responsible for delivering low carbon energy to Ireland. The benefit has been twofold; reduction in our carbon emissions from the production of electricity and an increase in competition in the energy market. It is resolutely evident that energy prices have been driven down over time due to a high output of energy from wind. Solar Energy has the ability to complement this supply of renewable energy and help drive wholesale prices down even further during daytime peak demand.

How the solar industry can deal with supply chain interruptions during COVID-19

Article | April 1, 2020

With the onslaught of the worldwide COVID-19 pandemic, we are all experiencing an unprecedented time. As the global economy wrestles with defining which industries and businesses are essential and non-essential, the United States has determined that construction, manufacturing and energy are essential businesses. Many companies and jobs within the solar industry fall into construction, manufacturing or energy, and in some cases all three categories. At Quest Renewables, we have outlined how we can limit interruptions to our supply chain during the current atmosphere. Our hope is that you will find this information helpful.

Why Renewable Energy Is a Technical Reality But An Economic Disaster

Article | February 23, 2020

2020 may turn out to be the year of the battery. The Trump administration has made grid-level battery backup a focus of its Energy Storage Grand Challenge -- an effort to create an all-American supply chain for advanced battery technologies. Meanwhile, Texas, which is the only state to run its own electricity grid, is offering up to $9000 a megawatt-hour for peak summer battery power. And on the other side of the world in South Australia, Tesla has been asked to up the capacity of its mammoth battery in the desert to 193.5 megawatt-hours, or about double the storage capacity of the entire Texas state grid.

5 Reasons Why Going Solar is the Right Choice in 2020

Article | March 3, 2020

If you’ve been considering adding solar energy to your home, 2020 is the perfect time to do so. Last year, solar owners were able to receive maximum benefits from the federal solar investment tax credit (ITC), which gives homeowners an opportunity to receive a tax credit towards income taxes after their solar system is fully installed and operating. While 2019 was the last year to get the full 30% federal solar tax credit, there are still many great reasons to add solar to your home in 2020.

2020: The Year of Convergence in Corporate Renewables

Article | February 10, 2020

The rapid growth of corporate renewable procurement has been nothing short of a buyer-driven revolution in the United States’ electric sector. Almost 20 gigawatts (GWs) of corporate power purchasing agreements (PPAs) were completed in 2019 across the globe, up from 13 GWs of corporate PPAs in 2018 and triple the numbers from 2017.1,2 And the majority of this growth has come from the United States. Fortunately for those of us committed to renewable energy, we expect this trend to continue. But as should be expected in such a dynamic, buyer-driven sector, we are starting to see some noticeable shifts in the marketplace as it evolves and grows. I wanted to highlight some of the trends Constellation is watching for this year.
