Pivot Energy | January 27, 2023
Pivot Energy, a national renewable energy provider, is set to deploy nine additional rooftop solar systems on Extra Space Storage's facilities, adding a capacity of 946.8 kilowatts to an already expansive renewable energy portfolio that has now reached 15 megawatts (MW). The rooftop solar arrays developed as a result of this collaboration will generate approximately 20 million kilowatt-hours of clean electricity annually, enough to power over 2,500 homes.
Since 2018, Extra Space Storage and Pivot Energy have developed 150 solar projects in twelve U.S. states: California, Colorado, Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Rhode Island, Michigan, Massachusetts, Missouri, and Tennessee. Each solar system produces 80 to 100 percent of the facility's energy, making Extra Space Storage a leader in promoting renewable energy.
Extra Space has been an industry pioneer in solar adoption for over a decade and was the first self-storage company to receive Nareit's award for displaying excellent and continuous sustainability practices. It has won this award three years in a row, from 2020 onwards.
Pivot Energy is a commercial solar provider that helps municipalities, schools, universities, businesses, and non-profits reduce operating costs and electricity consumption by maximizing state and federal incentives and making their operations more sustainable.
Erik Bruner, Director of Business Development for Pivot Energy, shared, "We deeply value our longstanding partnership with Extra Space Storage." He added, "It is a delight to work with a client that's genuinely enthusiastic about incorporating solar into their business model, and they've truly paved the way for their industry. This 15 megawatt milestone is certainly not the end of the road for Extra Space, and we look forward to helping them achieve even more of their sustainability goals in the future."

EVLO Energy storage | January 17, 2023
EVLO Energy Storage Inc., an energy storage company and subsidiary of Hydro-Québec, has recently announced its partnership with Wildstone Construction Group, a general contracting group, and Skyfire Energy, a leading provider of solar panel installation services, to deliver Summerland's first utility-scale solar installation that utilizes battery energy storage system (BESS) technology. This technology will extend the system's output into hours with the greatest energy demand.
The project includes a 0.4 MW solar array, 4 EVLO 1000 battery energy storage units, and a proprietary EMS control system that will provide a total storage capacity of 4 MWh. The storage system will allow for peak shaving, minimizing short-term demand spikes and reducing peak loads, lowering the overall cost of demand charges. In addition, the solar installation will be geo-ballasted, eliminating the need for ground anchors or concrete during construction, thereby reducing the project's carbon footprint.
EVLO's industry expertise and battery technology are based on Hydro-Québec's decades of research and development on battery materials, holding hundreds of patents in the field. The company is uniquely qualified to develop products and services that meet the specific requirements of utilities and independent power producers due to Hydro-Québec's experience in the control, operation, and simulation of electric power systems.
Sonia St-Arnaud, President and CEO at EVLO, stated, "We are honored to support this green energy initiative that stems from the district's vision. As our first solar plus storage installation in Western Canada, EVLO is proud to work alongside Wildstone to provide our leading energy storage solutions and industry expertise for this first-of-its-kind project for the Summerland region." She adds, "As we celebrate our second anniversary, this project builds upon our rapidly growing portfolio as we expand into markets throughout North America and abroad."

Canadian Solar Inc. | January 09, 2023
Canadian Solar Inc., recently announced that CSI Energy Storage, a majorly owned subsidiary CSI Solar Co., Ltd., has been chosen to provide 550 MWh of SolBank energy storage products to Pulse Clean Energy to be used in multiple UK-based projects.
The 550 MWh of energy storage projects covered by the agreement will use a proprietary battery energy storage solution, CSI Energy Storage's SolBank, which is designed and produced for utility-scale applications. As per the agreement, CSI Energy Storage will also deliver commissioning services for the products in addition to long-term warranties and performance guarantees.
The new arrangement expands the relationship between CSI Energy Storage and Pulse, following Pulse's announcement in May 2022 that it had selected CSI Energy Storage to provide engineering, procurement, and construction services for four projects totaling 100 MWh. In addition, a long-term services agreement (LTSA) spanning ten years for the operation and maintenance of the facilities was also included in the contract.
Pulse has developed a pipeline of over 2,000 MWh of grid-scale battery storage and energy optimization opportunities in the United Kingdom. SolBank from CSI Energy Storage will be deployed to support the grid's capacity requirements at a number of these sites and additional sites in the United Kingdom.
CSI Storage introduced SolBank in September 2022, a proprietary energy storage battery solution. CSI Energy Storage also aims to expand its battery manufacturing capacity from 2.5 GWh to 10 GWh by the end of 2023.
