Where Solar Energy Is Booming in the U.S.

The solar market has seen ebbs and flows over the past decade, and right now, utility-scale solar appears to be the hottest business in town. As the pipeline grows, developers and solar manufacturers have a lot riding on who is winning projects. Tens of billions of dollars are at stake over the next few years. Investors wouldn't have thought that the solar industry would be hitting records with a fairly hostile Trump administration in power, but that's what's happening today. Corporate buyers looking for stability in electricity costs and some green energy kudos from consumers and investors are signing projects at a record pace, and utilities are starting to see solar bids so low they can't be ignored. In the first six months of 2019, 11.2 GW of utility-scale solar projects have been announced, and 17% of those were from corporate buyers. As recently as 2016, corporate buyers were only 10% of the market and passed just a bit more than 1 GW of projects, a level that's already been surpassed. On the utility side, solar is winning on the price of electricity.

More Solar Ready To Help Power Pumping For SA Water

Article | April 29, 2021

SA Water’s electricity supply is about to become greener and cheaper again with the addition of another major solar power system, and an even bigger installation to soon follow. The utility says more 7,300 solar panels installed at the second pump station on its pipeline between Swan Reach and Stockwell are now connected and ready to go. “The Swan Reach to Stockwell Pipeline spans across more than 50 kilometres inland from the mighty Murray across to the northern Barossa area, and therefore requires significant energy to pump clean, safe drinking water across such large distances,” said SA Water’s Nicola Murphy While the total capacity of this new solar farm wasn’t provided, Ms. Murphy said it will generate approximately 5,224 megawatt hours of clean, green energy annually. There’s more solar energy to come for this section of pipeline, with a further 16,000 panels currently being connected at the first pump station.

Four Ways Toward A New Energy Economy

Article | February 25, 2020

The American Council on Renewable Energy (ACORE) released a report in January 2020 that examines four notable policy approaches identified as having the potential to accelerate the transition to a renewable energy economy and achieving scientifically based reductions in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. The report, Advancing America’s Climate Leadership: Policy Options That Most Effectively Put Renewable Energy to Work, discusses specific advantages and limitations of each policy option, individually and in combination. Authored by ACORE’s Greg Wetstone, President and CEO; Bill Parsons, COO; Lesley Hunter, VP of Programs; and Tyler Stoff, Policy Manager, this report offers design recommendations for policymakers to optimize implementation.

How smart solar inverters can save you money

Article | March 4, 2020

Traditionally, home solar inverters have had just one key function in support of your home solar installation: They convert the direct current moving out of your solar panels to alternating current your home appliances use. Over the past decade, inverter technology has advanced to add enhanced capabilities like data monitoring, communication, and executive functioning. In these ways, inverters have absolutely become more intelligent. These smarts don’t just help prevent blackouts, they can also save you a significant amount of cash over time. In this article, we introduce you to three ways a smart inverter can save you money: smart charging, standby mode and home energy monitoring.
