A new Riverina solar farm in the southwestern New South Wales rural region has been approved by the NSW government. Along with the capacity to generate electicity, there is also 25 MW of battery storage. The $130 million, 100 MW West Wyalong Solar Farm will create around 150 jobs during construction. The nation’s top solar university research hub, the University of New South Wales (UNSW), in Sydney, has announced it will switch to 100 per cent renewable energy by 2020. Underpinning the goal is a 15-year power-purchase-agreement with the Sunraysia solar farm in western NSW. The PPA is a tripartite arrangement with project developer Maoneng and Origin Energy. Enel Green Power Brazil has announced the operations of the 475MW section of the Sao Goncalo solar PV plant in the Brazilian state of Piaui. The plant is South America’s largest PV facility and has gone live a year ahead of the deadline set by the rules of the 2017 A-4 public tender.
