The Cerro Dominador concentrated solar power (CSP) project in Chile’s Atacama Desert hit a milestone this week when the receiver was raised and installed at the top of the tower. The 2,300-tonne solar receiver was assembled at the base of the tower, then placed inside the tower’s cavity and lifted to a height of 220 metres (721.8 ft) using 16 hydraulic jacks. Facebook was the largest buyer of renewable energy in the US in 2019, according to research by the Renewable Energy Buyers Alliance (REBA). REBA said Facebook procured 1.546GW of the 9.33GW sold last year, with Google coming in second with 1.107GW.
