Pattern Energy Group LP announced it has started construction of its Lanfine Wind power project in Alberta, Canada. The 150 megawatt (MW) project, which will provide enough clean energy to power approximately 25,000 homes in Alberta annually, is expected to enter full commercial operation by the end of 2022.

The Lanfine Wind project will utilize 35 Vestas V150-4.2 MW turbines, delivered in 4.3 MW operating mode. Developed by Pattern Canada, the Lanfine Wind project will be located to the south and west of Oyen, Alberta in Special Area 3.
Lanfine Wind represents a projected investment of roughly C$350 million in Alberta and will bring lasting and diverse economic benefits, including up to 200 construction jobs. In addition to employment and contracting opportunities, Lanfine Wind will generate landowner revenue and provide tax revenue to the local community, which will directly contribute to education, community services, roads, and first-responder capabilities. Further, a Community Benefits Program funded by the project will support local initiatives and community-based organizations.
With Lanfine Wind, Pattern Canada has now brought 11 wind energy projects into construction and operation across five provinces over the last decade, creating thousands of Canadian jobs and millions of dollars in direct economic benefits to our local communities.

The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), Huawei, and conservation project partners joined forces to urge for a greater global push to develop and implement innovative technologies to better safeguard the environment.
The two partners held an online summit called "Tech for a Better Planet" to show how technology may dramatically improve nature conservation outcomes, as well as to introduce new digital technologies that are poised to become critical enablers of environmental protection.
The process of responding to environmental concerns has raised awareness of the importance of technology in nature protection.

Huawei supports the worldwide zero-carbon journey by promoting green development in industries through ICT breakthroughs. To speed the development of renewable energy, the company has merged power electronics and digital technology on the energy supply side. In terms of energy consumption, Huawei will continue to develop energy-saving technologies to improve the energy efficiency of ICT infrastructure, saving energy and lowering emissions in the process.
Huawei has also created long-term partnerships to improve nature conservation outcomes by developing technology solutions that can better comprehend nature and lead to more effective biodiversity protection measures in a variety of environments. IUCN and Huawei started the global Tech4Nature project in 2020, and have since launched pilot programs in Switzerland, Spain, China, Mexico, and Mauritius based on the IUCN Green List Standard.
IUCN, Huawei, and the Ecomode Society deployed the first underwater system in the Western Indian Ocean to monitor coral reef ecosystems in real time off the coast of Mauritius. The project's goal is to rebuild seriously threatened coral reef ecosystems by growing live coral in nurseries, transplanting it, and tracking growth, water conditions, and dangers such as algae.
Underwater cameras with unique lenses, sensors, a 4G network to transport data, and AI to analyse the results are all part of the solution. Nearly 10,000 coral fragments have been transplanted to deteriorated reefs to date, with a total of 25,000 expected by the end of 2022.

Borrego, a leading developer, EPC and O&M provider for large-scale renewable energy projects throughout the United States, announced today that it has been selected by The AES Corporation (NYSE: AES), a Fortune 500 global energy company, to engineer and construct three utility-scale solar projects in Michigan. The agreement represents Borrego's first foray into the growing Michigan clean energy market and some of the company's latest project wins in the utility-scale solar sector.
The three projects—located in Cement City, Pullman and Letts Creek—have mobilized for construction and are scheduled to come online by mid-2022. With a cumulative installed capacity of 72 MW-DC, the solar farms will feature bifacial solar modules on single-axis trackers.
Once they are completed, the solar power plants will be owned and operated by AES, with the electricity generated sold to Consumers Energy, under the terms of a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA).
The solar plants will collectively generate approximately 104,500 megawatt-hours of electricity per year, enough to power more than 9,000 Michigan households. The clean energy produced will offset the equivalent of 74,057 metric tons of climate-harming carbon dioxide emissions from fossil fuel sources.
