GP JOULE Breaks Ground on Concord Pacific 106-MW Solar Portfolio in Alberta

GP JOULE North America, a subsidiary of GP JOULE GmbH and a leader in utility-scale solar Engineering, Procurement and Construction, with proprietary racking solutions, has broken ground on a 106-megawatt solar PV portfolio for Concord Pacific, Canada's largest community builder. Experience building projects in challenging climates with durable technology that provides a lower cost of energy were key drivers in GP JOULE being awarded the three PV projects, each 35 megawatts in size.

Technology at all three project sites, which are located within one hour of Lethbridge, Alberta, must sustain the province's highest wind speeds at 140 kilometers per hour. GP JOULE's proven PHLEGON® Fixed racking system was determined best suited for the area's exceptional conditions.

GP JOULE is known for building a network with local workers transitioning to renewable energy. It is estimated upwards of 150 skilled and professional trade workers will be hired with about 60% likely hailing from the fossil fuel industry.

Concord Pacific has an established renewable energy portfolio including solar power plants operating in Ontario, wind turbines in Saskatchewan and the Skookum run of river power plant in British Columbia. Tesla Claims that all Superchargers will be Powered by Renewable Energy this Year

Tesla reportedly made an Earth Day announcement that went unnoticed: the automaker plans to fuel its Supercharger stations with renewable energy this year. To have a truly positive impact on the climate, the electric car revolution must be fueled by renewable energy. This is why Tesla has a solar and energy storage business to further drive the growth of renewable energy. The majority of charging occurs at home, and going with domestic solar will practically result in your electric car running on sunlight, but public charging stations must also be powered by renewable energy. We now know that Tesla intends to make significant progress in this area this year. Justin Lange, Tesla's sales lead for Superchargers in the mid-Atlantic, shared some fascinating statistics about Tesla's Supercharger network on Earth Day: The most intriguing piece of information here, however, is that Tesla reportedly plans for “all Supercharger energy to be 100% renewable in 2021.” Tesla has some solar power at some Supercharger stations, but the majority of its charging stations are supplied by the grid and whatever source of electricity is owned by the local utilities. Since some electric utilities now obtain all of their electricity from renewable sources, the charging stations on their networks are often powered by renewable energy. Adding solar power at the station is not the only option for areas where the grid is operated on fossil fuels. It is unclear how Tesla will approach this new target of powering the entire Supercharger network with renewable energy this year. Elon Musk, Tesla's CEO, said in 2017 that the company intends to install solar and batteries in all Supercharger stations and gradually disconnect the majority of them from the grid. Tesla now runs the world's largest global electric vehicle charging network, with over 24,000 Superchargers located in over 2,700 locations worldwide.

Tesla Energy Plan Launched in Australia, Intending to Lower Electricity Prices with the Use of a Virtual Power Plant

In South Australia, Tesla has unveiled a new "Tesla Energy Plan" in an attempt to reduce power prices in a country known for high energy costs. A Tesla Powerwall-powered virtual power plant is supporting the initiative. Over the years, South Australia has had several power outages. Tesla first became interested in providing its Powerpack to Neoen's massive energy storage initiative, named the "Tesla Big Battery." While in the region during the launch of the big battery, Tesla CEO Elon Musk was interviewed and presented with the significant hardship that Australia's high energy rates are causing low-income families. As a result of the unstable grid and high electricity costs, some households are forced to choose between keeping the lights on and going hungry. Musk was visibly moved by the situation and promised that Tesla will “work harder” to help fix the crisis. Tesla revealed a few months later that it had signed an agreement with the South Australian government to install solar panels and Powerwalls on up to 50,000 houses, many of which were owned by low-income households. Tesla has been installing more Powerwalls in recent years to expand the virtual power plant, which provides grid services to reduce costs and backup power in the case of a power outage. Tesla had 1,000 Powerwalls on the network last summer, and they were permitted to install another 3,000 batteries in a new process. Tesla is now introducing the “Tesla Energy Plan on the Tesla Virtual Power Plant.”

TransAlta Renewables Announces the Acquisition of 303 MW Portfolio including 274 MW of Wind from TransAlta Corporation

TransAlta Renewables Inc. ("TransAlta Renewables" or the "Organization") (TSX: RNW) reported that it had gone into authoritative arrangements for the securing of three resources from TransAlta Corporation ("TransAlta") (TSX: TA) comprising of: a 100 percent direct interest in the 207 MW Windrise wind project situated in the Municipal District of Willow Creek, Alberta; a 49 percent financial interest in the 137 MW Skookumchuck wind office in activity situated across Thurston and Lewis Counties in Washington State; and a 100 percent monetary interest in the 29 MW Ada cogeneration office in activity situated in Ada, Michigan. "We are satisfied to declare our securing of Windrise and monetary interests in the Skookumchuck wind and Ada cogeneration resources. This improves our situation in the renewables area in both Canada and the US, dispatches nearby age in the US and further expands the contracted span of our sources of income for progressing dispersions to our investors as we keep on focusing on a 80 to 85 percent payout proportion for our normal offer profits," said John Kousinioris, President of TransAlta Renewables. The absolute procurement cost for the arrangement of resources is $439 million, which incorporates the excess development costs for the Windrise wind project. The Company will finance the money thought for the securing and remaining development costs with the returns from the South Hedland project financing finished recently. The exchange will shut in discrete tranches from the get-go in 2021 subject as per the general inclination of certain end conditions; in any case, the monetary advantage of the exchange will be considered successful as at January 1, 2021.
