Green share of German energy consumption hits 16.6% in 2018

The share of renewables in German energy consumption in the power, heating and transport sectors climbed by 1.1 percentage points to 16.6% in 2018, the Environment Agency (UBA) said on Wednesday. The country was therefore on track to meet EU goals of an 18% share by 2020, it added in a statement. But to reach climate goals further down the line, more renewables needed to be built, the agency added. In 2018, the use of renewables prevented 184m tonnes of carbon emissions, of which 141m tonnes where saved in the power sector alone, it said, with overall renewable.
