Local Entrepreneur Offer Affordable, Solar-Powered Steel Housing in Florida

A local business owner sold his latest project, a waterproof, windproof, fireproof and insectproof steel house to a construction employee in Collier County. This innovative home made from mostly recycled steel is solar-powered, can withstand category 5 hurricances. But even more importantly, it costs less than the county median. Jim Henderson, owner of William C. Huff Cos, is a longtime businessman in moving and storage from East Naples, Collier County, Florida. His latest project is a more affordable and environmentally friendly, 1500 square feet (46 m²) single family home. The three bedrooms-two bathrooms house with storm-resistant windows took a year to build from mostly pre-engineered, pre-insulated steel panels (no trusses) with little waste. There is zero wood in the structure, much to the sorrow of termites. The building has no soffits or any other exterior openings outside. There is no attic to make the home completely waterproof. The energy needs of the rugged, industrially minimalist style house is provided by 20 solar panels on the roof.
