New Mexico Governor Grisham signs law requiring 100 percent renewable energy by 2045

On Friday, New Mexico Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham signed the state’s groundbreaking Energy Transition Act (ETA) into law, meaning that by 2045, the state should be fully powered by clean, carbon-free electricity. The ETA instructs New Mexico utilities to get at least 50 percent of their electricity from renewable sources by 2030, 80 percent by 2040, and 100 percent carbon-free electricity by 2045. Following Hawaii and California, New Mexico is the third state with a 100 percent clean electricity law on the books.
