NV Energy to add new solar energy, battery storage

NV Energy Inc. has agreed to buy power from three large, planned solar farms with battery storage capabilities, to be built in southern Nevada, Kallanish Energy has learned. The company is a Nevada-based utility company owned by billionaire Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway Inc. The photovoltaic projects mark one of the biggest expansions of solar and storage ever proposed in the U.S. Bloomberg reported. The Nevada projects by 8minute Solar Energy, Quinbrook Infrastructure Partners and EDF Renewables together will produce roughly 1,200 megawatts of power. They will be backed by battery systems capable of storing 590 megawatt-hours (MWh). The 8minute solar facility would provide 300 MW. Known as the Southern Bighorn Solar & Storage Center, it would be located north of Las Vegas, on the Moapa River Indian Reservation. Construction could start in 2022, with production beginning in 2023. It would include a 135 MW, 4-hour Lithium-Ion battery storage system. Quinbrook is planning a 690 MW solar complex and a 380 MW AC battery storage system.
