The City of Sydney has followed the lead of Melbourne to commit to 100 per cent renewable electricity. Under the plans the city would see a 44 per cent reduction in emissions in just two years, and the adoption of 50 per cent renewables in the city’s electricity supply by 2021, ahead of the 2030 target date. The Lord Mayor Clover Moore last Thursday made the announcement, pledging to cut emissions by around 18,000 tonnes a year, the equivalent of the yearly power consumption of 4,000 households.
