Tigo Energy Introduces Design Quality
Tigo Energy, Inc., the solar industry’s leading Flex MLPE (Module Level Power Electronics) supplier, today unveiled the Solar PLC Signal Integrity Tool and expanded training material to empower solar installers and EPCs to provide high-quality solar solutions for commercial and industrial (C&I) solar system owners. Following the recently announced Tigo Pure Signal™ technology, Tigo is once again leveraging its technical expertise for its customers with a design validation tool and companion training material that will help installers preemptively identify potential PLC (powerline communications) signal integrity issues in large-scale C&I solar systemsDisturbances in PLC signals, often referred to as “crosstalk,” can result in reduced effectiveness of system communications functions in large-scale photovoltaic (PV) systems. The updated TS4 Design and Installation Course now includes best practices around mitigating PLC crosstalk issues at the design stage before they can cause disruptions in the field. The Solar PLC Signal Integrity Tool, in turn, can be used to quickly identify crosstalk risk in array plans or in systems already deployed. The new tool was designed to be vendor-neutral and can provide guidance on how to resolve PLC rapid shutdown communications issues for solar systems with either Tigo or competitor solutions.

After the Solar PLC Signal Integrity Tool process is completed, installers receive an immediate assessment of the risk of PLC performance issues in the form of a score. The Tigo TS4 Design and Installation Course, integrated into the Tigo Academy, features a section on PLC rapid shutdown system design as well as a technical deep dive into the Tigo TS4 Flex MLPE product line. Through practical guidance and best practices to ensure optimal system performance, installers can learn how to properly design, install and commission a Tigo TS4 system using any compatible solar inverter. The comprehensive two-hour course includes a certification exam worth 1.5 NABCEP continuing education credits.

“An important part of our mission at Tigo is to keep installers at the center of everything we do, and investing in tools and training is no small part of that, The resources we announced today represent the place at which the installer aspect of our mission intersects with our dedication to quality. As our partners in the field raise their stakes with ever larger installations, we are supporting them with things like this new PLC Tool, Pure Signal technology, and impactful continuing education to help them design and support the highest quality PV installations.”

As part of its mission to support the decarbonisation of the global energy sector, Ricardo, a world-class, strategic environmental and engineering consulting company, has received 3million GBP from the UK Government to design, install and operate a combined heat and power demonstrator plant with a carbon negative footprint which will showcase climate repairing technology. The plant will demonstrate the effectiveness of community scale greenhouse gas removal and clean energy using sustainably-sourced forestry waste. The funding is awarded through the Net Zero Innovation Portfolio (NZIP) under the Department of Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS).Ricardo is leading the consortium delivering the demonstrator plant. The consortium combines an innovative carbon capture system developed by Ricardo with the hot air turbine technology from Bluebox Energy and pyrolysis technology from Woodtek Engineering. The quarter-sized demonstrator plant, which will be located at Holmsted Farm in West Sussex in the UK, will be commissioned and operational in 2023. It will demonstrate not only a highly innovative greenhouse gas removal technology, that in the full-size system can generate renewable heat and electricity for up to 300 local homes and businesses, but also a realistic carbon negative technology that can significantly contribute to net zero targets. “Ricardo is a trusted advisor to governments around the world on climate change policy and the transition to clean energy, and is also well known for its mission to decarbonise the global transport and energy sectors. In partnership with Bluebox Energy and Woodtek Engineering, this project will demonstrate that our innovative and integrated carbon capture system can be used to benefit local communities, bolster the UK’s reputation as a pioneer in negative emission technologies, and provide a sustainable and commercially viable pathway to net-zero while also delivering national energy security.” -Tim Curtis, Managing Director, Ricardo Energy and Environment Ricardo’s project is one of several across the UK which will benefit from a share of over 54 million GBP to develop technologies that remove carbon emissions from the atmosphere. Announcing this investment, UK Government’s Energy and Climate Change Minister Greg Hands said: This 54 million GBP government investment will help establish a greenhouse gas removal industry in the UK, which could be worth billions to our economy, bringing in private investment and supporting the creation of new green jobs. The technology works by taking sustainably sourced waste wood from domestic timber production and then processing it in three ways: producing biochar (a product similar to charcoal); generating heat and power; and capturing carbon dioxide from the exhaust. The technology, therefore, captures around 95% of the carbon content in the wood. It also produces commercially marketable carbon products: the biochar can be used by farmers to enrich soil and add to animal feed to reduce ruminant emissions. The industrial-grade carbon dioxide can either be used for making low-carbon concrete or in the food and drinks industry to replace carbon dioxide derived from industrial processes which rely on imported natural gas. A full-size system will remove 16,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide per year from the atmosphere. Ricardo has been collaborating with Bluebox Energy since June 2020 to deliver innovative technologies that support the transition to a low carbon future. This project is a further boost to Ricardo’s credentials in tackling climate change and meeting national net zero targets. Schneider Electric launches world’s first EV charger to keep energy bills and CO2 emissions in check

Schneider Electric | September 02, 2022

IFA -- Schneider Electric, the leader in digital transformation of energy management and automation, is launching its revolutionary EVlink Home Smart Charger at IFA 2022. The charger is the world’s first to intelligently manage the heavy EV energy load at home and prioritize renewable energy sources. Schneider Electric’s new EVlink Home Smart charger is the first on the market that integrates into a complete ecosystem of home energy management to monitor EV power consumption in real-time, predict spending, and set budgets with ease with four different modes: ‘charge now’, ‘green charging*’, ‘cost effective’, and ‘customized schedule’. Connecting to the complete Home Energy system, homeowners can control all of their electrical devices and monitor their consumption through a single application. EV Charger uptake is on the rise as consumers make more sustainable lifestyle choices to reduce their carbon emissions but charging your car must be convenient and affordable. An EV can increase home energy loads by up to 40% (not to mention the impact on already skyrocketing energy bills). It’s a worry for eco-conscious homeowners as houses already generate more carbon emissions than transportation, industry, or energy production. Thanks to its ability to connect seamlessly and fully integrate with Schneider Electric’s Wiser Home Energy Management system, users can face this worry head on, all from the palm of their hand. Users can control how and when their EV is charged and balance charging against other energy guzzling devices, via their mobile whenever they need to, wherever they are. Initiating ‘cost effective’ mode By activating the ‘cost effective’ mode, Wiser can help to avoid costly bills by creating the most efficient schedule based on the cheapest electricity tariff available. For homeowner’s who have set energy limits, Wiser can also stop charging each time consumption reaches the power limit contract, ensuring bills stay under control, forever. Wiser's intelligent energy management system automatically balances the loads to enable minimal disruption and maximum efficiency for homeowners. For instance, if they begin cooking, the system syncs with Wiser to understand energy consumption in conjunction with other appliances in real time to avoid any disruption or tripping. It brings ultimate convenience, allowing you to charge your car without interrupting the rest of your lifestyle. It’s easy being green In 2023, users will have access to the ‘green mode’ where homeowners can fully utilize the power of renewable energy. For example, if solar energy is available, the system will automatically switch to this source. Additionally, when solar power is at its peak conversion time, your EV can be set to charge at this time, avoiding having to use costly grid energy. For extra insights into your carbon footprint, the App also provides updates on your CO2 consumption, allowing you to make more informed decisions about where further savings can be made. Optimizing our energy use, making better decisions about sustainability, and ensuring our cars are charged and ready to drive when we need them is all about making our energy, and homes, work harder for us and the planet. The EVlink Home Smart charger is the latest addition to the smart and sustainable home energy management portfolio of EV chargers from Schneider Electric: The EVlink Mureva socket - suitable for small vehicle, bikes or motorbikes The new EVlink Pro AC - for residential, commercial, offices or industrial buildings Pricing and availability The EVlink Smart Home Charger will be available in Q4 2022.
