Wind farm is coming to southeast New Mexico, turbines to be built in Eddy County

Wind energy is coming to southeast New Mexico, as a project to bring turbines and transmission lines was announced for Eddy and Chaves counties. The Oso Grande Wind Project was predicted to go into full operations by the end of 2020, per a news release from its owner EDF Renewables, with construction starting this year. In total, 61 turbines will be built for the project – a project between EDF and Tucson Electric Power. The energy generated will be delivered to Tucson, Arizona, read the release, and the system will have a capacity of about 247 megawatts. “EDF Renewables is pleased to partner with TEP to supply cost-competitive, renewable energy to its customers from the Oso Grande Wind Project,” said Ryan Pfaff, executive vice president at EDF Renewables. “We look forward to assisting TEP in meeting its clean energy goals by completing Oso Grande in the second half of 2020.” David Hutchens, President of Tucson Electric Power said the project will be his company’s largest renewable energy asset and advance its goal of increasing the use of renewable resources.
