Creating Bridges to Affordable, Reliable and Clean Energy in Africa

The IEA’s newly-enhanced Tracking Clean Energy Progress (TCEP) provides a comprehensive and rigorous assessment of a full range of energy technologies and sectors that are critical in a global clean-energy transition. It includes the most up-to-date information for where technologies are today and where they need to be according to the IEA’s Sustainable Development Scenario, a pathway to reach the Paris Agreement well below 2°C climate goal, deliver universal energy access and significantly lower air pollution.

A new incentive program the Solar Massachusetts Renewable Target (SMART) program compensates behind-the-meter solar power capacity in the state. While solar incentive programs are not new to Massachusetts, the SMART program creates a new opportunity for C&I energy users to integrate solar-plus-storage systems at no upfront cost, which can provide valuable off-grid power resources to reduce energy spend significantly while also earning payments through New England’s demand response programs.

A growing body of research and operational experience highlights the value of large balancing areas and fast system operations to cost-effectively integrating high penetrations of wind and solar on the grid.
