Tackling the environmental concerns for deploying geothermal energy

This presentation is one in a series on financing tools and examining the role of state clean energy funds as equity investors in emerging clean energy companies. Guest speakers addressed the following questions: 1) when and why it is appropriate for a ratepayer-supported clean energy fund to invest in clean energy business; 2) should a fund do this on its own, outsource its investments to a private venture capital firm; or invest in a clean energy vc or private equity fund; 3) where can limited state investment dollars be most effective and best complement private venture capital activities. In this webinar, Lauren Burrows (Massachusetts Clean Energy Center) reviewed MassCEC's mission and its role in advancing clean technology and creating jobs in the clean energy sector.

Cities can lead in the clean energy transition, boost the local solar market and save on electricity bills by powering their own operations with solar energy. Installing solar arrays on municipal roofs is the most visible way to set an example, but where on-site solar is not feasible, cities can still use off-site solar power to accomplish their goals. India's renewable energy industry is aggressively moving towards achieving the government's target of installing 175 GW capacity by 2021-22. Large-scale central and state allocations, fiscal and regulatory incentives, as well as execution support from the government through set-up of solar parks and green energy corridors are expected to drive future growth. However, aggressive bidding, payment delays and back-down of power have cast long shadows.
