What role solar thermal will play in the energy sector in 2050 is one of the principal questions that the international Task 52 research project on Solar Heat and Energy Economics in Urban Environments intends to answer. This webinar will give information in two areas, one on energy scenarios about future development of energy systems and two on best practices, actual economy and planning tools for solar heat based urban energy concepts. We invite all stakeholders to join the 1.5-hour webinar scheduled for Thursday, 14 December 2017, from 13 to 14.30 GMT. You can register online. This will be the fourth of a series of webinars organized by the IEA SHC Programme’s Solar Academy and hosted by the International Solar Energy Society. A recording of the event and the presentations from the webinar will be made available on the IEA SHC website, www.iea-shc.org, after the live stream. Join us for a discussion about the opportunities and challenges future role of solar heat in urban environments.

The transition to renewable energy is underway. This transition can be viewed through many lenses. General population lenses (Climate change is happening. We don’t know what we need to do exactly, but we’re doing it too slow!), Political lenses (How do we satisfy enough of our voters, how do we take credit for the good changes, and distance ourselves from the problems?), Commercial lenses (how can we profit from the transition?), Engineering lenses (How do we do this at all, considering safety, reliability, cost, and technical limitations?), and others.

The mining industry faces a complex challenge: how to provide the essential resources the modern global economy needs while reducing its own environmental impact. The integration of renewables and energy storage into its power system offers a number of opportunities for mines: making production more sustainable and reducing costs, while securing and hedging future energy supply cost. In this webinar, three renewables industry leaders will showcase best practices for the conceptualisation, design, installation and operation of cost-efficient hybrid systems, and their implementation at different mining sites – including Fekola Gold Mine in Mali and Sukari Gold Mine in Egypt. Their perspective ranges from the early planning phase to operations, and an outlook towards the energy future of mining practices in the coming years.

Renewable energy sources play an increasingly significant role in microgrids. That said, integrating these sources comes with significant challenges, including grid instability, variable instantaneous production, energy storage management, etc. These challenges can be overcome, however, by analyzing meteorological and energy forecasts. In fact, using such forecasts represent a serious advantage, especially when they are integrated directly into the microgrid’s control system. A number of validation steps are needed to optimize this solution, however. As a leading player in the field of renewable energy integration, Nergica invites you to take advantage of this webinar to better understand how meteorological and energy forecasting is used on simulation equipment and full-scale infrastructure.
