Spotlight

The provision of a secure and reliable electricity supply to New Zealanders is a constant challenge being faced by the electricity generation industry. As long-term demand for electricity continues to increase, additional electricity generation facilities are required to be built. Recently in the order of 1000MW of a thermal plant has been decommissioned in the Auckland region, this action significantly increases the “dry year” risk of electricity supply shortfall. The thermal plants were decommissioned as the respective projects had reached the end of their economic life.
