ABB provides automation technology to wind-farms in Italy

ABB has announced that it has collaborated with a renewable power company, Volta Green Energy (Volta), to implement its e-mesh solution for five wind farms in Sicily and a remote control centre in Rovereto in Trento district in Italy, owned by Volta. According to a statement from ABB, the e-mesh system will give control-room operators visibility across all the field assets, and will enable better control and help optimise production capacity. It is also scalable – if more wind farms are added to the control centre, the same operators can manage them just as efficiently, the company added. Domenico Finco, founding member of Volta said that this upgrade will help them to increase the efficiency and productivity of their operations and get insights into their fleet performance. “Through a single interface in our central control room in Rovereto, the northernmost tip of Italy, we can monitor and control the five wind farms included in the system which are spread across different parts of Sicily, the other end of the country,” he added. Commenting on the collaboration between the two companies, Massimo Danieli, MD of Power Grids at ABB, said: “The ABB Ability e-mesh solution allows distributed energy generation installations such as microgrids and renewable power plants or fleets to better manage their operations and increase revenue.”
