Ameren enters agreement to acquire large solar facility

Ameren Missouri, a subsidiary of Ameren Corporation, announced an agreement with Invenergy, a leading developer, owner and operator of sustainable energy solutions, to acquire a 150-megawatt solar facility project being developed in southeastern Illinois. The deal is subject to closing conditions, including regulatory approvals.

This project is consistent with the renewable energy milestones established in Ameren Missouri's 2020 Integrated Resource Plan and the company's goal of net-zero carbon emissions by 2050. It also helps Ameren Missouri customers achieve their own clean energy goals.

"This is another important step in demonstrating the company's commitment to clean energy and achieving our net-zero carbon emissions goal," said Ajay Arora, chief renewable development officer at Ameren Missouri.

With timely regulatory approvals, the project could begin generating clean energy as soon as 2024.

New flagship project for Aker Carbon Capture in the UK

To develop the groundbreaking Keadby 3 Carbon Capture Power Station, UK energy company SSE Thermal and Equinor have selected a consortium of Aker Solutions, Siemens Energy and Doosan Babcock, with Aker Carbon Capture as the carbon capture provider. The consortium has been awarded the FEED contract for the gas-to-power plant equipped with carbon capture technology to be built in the Humber region. Aker Carbon Capture and the consortium have agreed on the essential key terms and expect to sign the formal agreement shortly. Over the next 12 months, the consortium will deliver together with Aker Carbon Capture a detailed plan for the proposed plant – which would have a generating capacity of up to 910MW - bringing their vast technological expertise to bear on the realization of the decarbonized power station in the Track-1 East Coast Cluster. Keadby 3 Carbon Capture Power Station is set to utilize cutting-edge gas turbine technology from Siemens Energy. The UK Government has set ambitious targets for the country to become a world leader in carbon capture and storage (CCS) and Keadby 3 Carbon Capture Power Station will play a pivotal role with the ability to capture up to 1.5 MT of CO2 annually, around four times the size of Brevik CCS. A recently released socio-economic report outlined that the plant could deliver £1.2bn for the UK economy, including significant benefits for the local area. "Our ambition with Keadby 3 is to deliver one of the UK's first power stations equipped with carbon capture and through awarding this contract we continue to build momentum behind that goal. The proposed low-carbon plant at Keadby will not only provide vital flexible power while backing up renewables, it will also play a key role in meeting decarbonization targets. XCMG Pushes for Carbon Neutrality within Its Operating Boundaries by 2049

XCMG releases a program of action (PoA) for peak carbon and carbon neutrality, detailing planning, implementation and actual safeguard measures of sustainable transformation paths — including low-carbon transformation of energy consumption structure, green and intelligent manufacturing integration and upgrade, emissions reduction with supply chain alliance and digitalized, intelligent advancement. The PoA also specifies XCMG's short-, mid- and long-term targets in achieving "dual carbon" goals, that by 2035, power generated from renewable energies will account for 50 percent of XCMG's total electricity use, product penetration of new energy products will thrive to exceed 35 percent, and the carbon footprint of key products including excavators and cranes will be reduced by 32 percent compared to 2020. The action plan for 'dual carbon' goals aims to establish a uniform and precise approach in terms of strategy to help XCMG in building a green value chain with innovation-enabled, low-carbon intelligent construction machinery solutions achieved through technology, manufacturing, service and operation management, and we're committed to making great contributions to the sustainable development of society." Green and intelligent manufacturing: XCMG has three green factory demonstration companies accredited by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of People's Republic of China and one green supply chain demonstration company, XCMG Hosting Machinery is the industry's first company to pass the level-4 certification of intelligent manufacturing capability maturity. XCMG also took the lead in establishing two green design product standards. XCMG has recycled over 10,000 packaging materials in the recent two years. Reducing energy consumption and emissions: XCMG has built a smart, full lifecycle energy management system. In 2020, the company's energy consumption per 10,000 yuan of output value has been reduced by 29.3 percent compared to data from 2015. The construction of centralized collection and treatment facilities for fumes and dust is covering all of the welding areas, and the company has invested over US$47.4 million to reinforce VOC emissions in coating over the past three years. Short term, XCMG aims to reduce comprehensive energy consumption per unit by 15 percent and carbon emission by 26 percent by the end of 2025, compared with 2020. By 2027, XCMG aims to reach peak carbon within its operation boundaries and lower comprehensive energy consumption per unit by 18 percent and carbon emission per unit output by 31 percent compared to 2020. Total energy consumption wise, XCMG expects to grow self-generating photovoltaic power and wind power seven-fold, and market penetration of new energy products will reach 25 percent. In the long term, XCMG strives to be carbon neutral within its operation boundaries by 2049, promoting emission reduction of upstream and downstream enterprises across the industry chain and establishing a low-carbon, clean, safe and efficient green energy system with internationally advanced energy utilization efficiency.

Zendure Welcomes Jim Haflinger as Chief Technical Advisor

Zendure USA Inc. announced that it has hired Jim Haflinger to the role of Chief Technical Advisor. As the Silicon Valley portable charger company expands into the sustainable energy sector, Haflinger will lend his decades of electrical engineering experience to Zendure's research and development team. Prior to joining Zendure, Jim Haflinger was a Senior Principal Engineer at Nortek, where for 11 years he designed many products for home automation, security, personal safety, and solar backup power. He served Kodak for over six years as a Lead Electrical Engineer for the company's printer division, designing printheads and multi-protocol interfaces. The role had him coordinating product design and manufacturing in Europe, Asia, and the United States. He was also the engineering representative for the Customer Experience team to make the products more user friendly and easier to install and use. In total, Jim Haflinger has over 30 years of experience designing a wide variety of products, including SCSI interfaces and diagnostic equipment, data management tools, and switching power supplies for medical applications. Haflinger holds a B.S. in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from Santa Clara University and owns over a dozen patents on a variety of technologies. He is a member of IEEE (The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) and the Electric Auto Association and is the author of the 2nd edition of "Making SCSI Work". Recently, the company raised over $1.3 million in crowdfunding for their new SuperBase Pro power station.
