Heliogen Awarded Exclusive Right to Lease Brenda Solar Energy Zone for Green Hydrogen Production

Heliogen, Inc., a leading provider of AI-enabled concentrated solar energy, announced that the United States Bureau of Land Management has awarded the Company the exclusive right to lease land in the Brenda Solar Energy Zone (SEZ). Heliogen intends to develop a green hydrogen facility on the Brenda site, capable of producing approximately 20,000 metric tonnes of hydrogen per year. The Brenda SEZ is situated on 3,343 acres of land in La Paz County, Arizona on the California border. The site has direct access to Interstate 10 for distribution of hydrogen to nearby natural gas pipelines for blending and transport, as well as to the Phoenix metropolitan area and the Port of Los Angeles for domestic and international shipping. The Brenda SEZ is an ideal location for commercial-scale green hydrogen production due to the ample local water supply and its close proximity to potential offtake partners and key distribution channels. We look forward to providing updates on our plans to develop the facility and will leverage our proprietary, AI-enabled concentrated solar power technology to produce cost-effective green hydrogen. We are grateful to the Bureau of Land Management for their support and clarity throughout the process and are looking forward to continuing our work together.” Bill Gross, Chief Executive Officer of Heliogen As previously announced, Heliogen and Bloom Energy successfully generated green hydrogen by integrating the companies’ technologies – Heliogen’s concentrated solar energy system and Bloom Energy’s Electrolyzer. The successful hydrogen production demonstration in Lancaster, California, completed in November 2021, showcased the many benefits of combining the companies’ complementary green power and hydrogen production technologies. Heliogen’s AI-enabled concentrated solar energy system is designed to create non-intermittent, carbon-free steam, electricity, and heat from sunlight. When combined with Bloom Energy’s proprietary solid oxide, high-temperature electrolyzer, hydrogen can be produced 45 percent more efficiently than with low-temperature polymer electrolyte membrane (PEM) and alkaline electrolyzers. Electricity accounts for nearly 80 percent of the cost of hydrogen produced from electrolysis, and by using less electricity, hydrogen production is more economical, accelerating its adoption. In addition, the ability to use heat, which is a much lower cost source of energy than electricity, further improves the economics of green hydrogen production. Project development is one of the many ways Heliogen can support customers looking to deploy its novel solar technology. Heliogen leverages its in-house expertise, led by Chief Commercial Officer Tom Doyle, to develop project sites on behalf of customers who take an owner/operator role. Moderated by Kostis Geropoulos, Energy Editor at New Europe, the panelists included Jagjeet Sareen, Assistant Director General of ISA; Llewellyn King, founder of the Energy Daily; and Neelima Jain, Deputy Director & Senior Fellow, Wadhwani Chair in U.S. India Policy Studies, CSIS. If you add up all the net zero commitments made by countries in Glasgow, solar technology applications provide more than 50 percent of the solution. And if you add hydrogen to it, if you add storage, heating and cooling, the offering of solar as a solution goes about 65 percent. It's well established among among the top leaders, thinkers, modelers, industry people who are doing forecasting that we need to harness solar technology in a much bigger way to solve the energy transition problem if we are really serious about this.” Jagjeet Sareen, Assistant Director General of ISA "India has been punching above its weight as part of the additional renewable energy capacity system, despite continuing to balance the development and social needs of a large and complex developing nation. The installed capacity of renewable energy overall has increased to about 220 plus percent in the last four years, and solar power capacity alone has increased more than 11 fold in the last five years," said Neelima Jain. "Solar electricity from photovoltaic cells is cheap. We know how to make it. We know how to deploy it. We need to find out how to move it around quickly and cheaply and how to store it. It is one of the great benefits for mankind, and it is definitely a huge benefit in fighting carbon in the atmosphere," said Llewellyn King. The ISA was founded by India and France to mobilize efforts against climate change through deployment of solar energy solutions. It was conceptualized on the sidelines of the 21st Conference of Parties (COP21) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change in Paris in 2015. India hosted the Founding Conference of the ISA in 2018, and the ISA Secretariat was established in New Delhi. 40 % of India's total installed electricity capacity today is non-fossil based.

XCMG Pushes for Carbon Neutrality within Its Operating Boundaries by 2049

XCMG releases a program of action (PoA) for peak carbon and carbon neutrality, detailing planning, implementation and actual safeguard measures of sustainable transformation paths — including low-carbon transformation of energy consumption structure, green and intelligent manufacturing integration and upgrade, emissions reduction with supply chain alliance and digitalized, intelligent advancement. The PoA also specifies XCMG's short-, mid- and long-term targets in achieving "dual carbon" goals, that by 2035, power generated from renewable energies will account for 50 percent of XCMG's total electricity use, product penetration of new energy products will thrive to exceed 35 percent, and the carbon footprint of key products including excavators and cranes will be reduced by 32 percent compared to 2020. The action plan for 'dual carbon' goals aims to establish a uniform and precise approach in terms of strategy to help XCMG in building a green value chain with innovation-enabled, low-carbon intelligent construction machinery solutions achieved through technology, manufacturing, service and operation management, and we're committed to making great contributions to the sustainable development of society." Total energy consumption wise, XCMG expects to grow self-generating photovoltaic power and wind power seven-fold, and market penetration of new energy products will reach 25 percent. In the long term, XCMG strives to be carbon neutral within its operation boundaries by 2049, promoting emission reduction of upstream and downstream enterprises across the industry chain and establishing a low-carbon, clean, safe and efficient green energy system with internationally advanced energy utilization efficiency.
