EDP secures PPAs for 492 MW of wind in Colombia's tender

Energias de Portugal SA (ELI:EDP) announced on Wednesday it was awarded power purchase agreements (PPAs) for 492 MW of wind projects in the Colombian energy tender held on October 22. Through its renewable energy arm EDP Renovaveis SA (ELI:EDPR), the Portuguese firm secured two 15-year PPAs for the 212-MW Alpha and the 280-MW Beta wind parks. Both power plants are currently being developed by EDP and have an expected commercial operation schedule for 2022. With this new PPAs, EDP has now secured 60% of the 7 GW target goal it has set for its global capacity for the 2019-2022 period. Moreover, these projects also represent EDP's entry into the Colombian energy market, the company stated in its press release. Overall, 1,298 MW of wind and solar power were contracted in the tender, the second attempt to hold a renewable energy auction this year.
