Scottish government grants planning consent for 30-MW West Islay tidal project

The Scottish government announced yesterday it has granted planning consent of a 30-turbine tidal park off the southwest coast of Islay.West Islay Tidal Energy Park will have a generating capacity of up to 30 MW, enough to power around 18,000 homes.According to a press release from the Scottish Ministry for Business, the DP Marine Energy Ltd. development will be located about 6 km off the southwest coast of Islay and will create up to 32 full time jobs.In the announcement, Scottish Government Minister for Business, Innovation and Energy Paul Wheelhouse, said, Marine renewable technologies offer huge potential to the Scottish economy – and to rural communities throughout the world.
