Trina Solar Launches 405W+ Vertex S Module Series

On November 3, 2020, Trina Solar, a leading global PV and smart energy solution provider, announced the launch of Vertex S, the latest in their high-efficiency PV module series for residential and commercial rooftop applications. The new series features innovative Vertex technology to increase the output power of distributed energy products beyond 405W. Vertex S is a universal solution intended for distributed photovoltaic power plants, available in a range of customizable options, and caters to the needs of both residential and commercial customers. Following in the wake of ground-based power plants, the distributed comprehensive upgrade to the 405W Vertex technology platform heralds the beginning of a new ultra-high power era for distributed photovoltaic systems and the photovoltaic industry as a whole.

As the installed capacity for distributed photovoltaic systems continues growing, there is an urgent need for photovoltaic module products that are able to support this trend. Trina Solar's 405W+ Vertex S meets the module requirements of typical distributed photovoltaic systems and excels in key areas such as power (efficiency), size, weight, appearance, ease of installation, load, reliability and safety.

With this latest addition to the Vertex product range, Trina Solar takes the next logical step in its innovation leadership. The cutting-edge Vertex technology platform combines 210mm wafers, multi-busbar design, non-destructive cutting and high density packing. By introducing this platform to the new Vertex S family, Trina Solar is able to boost Vertex S's output power to more than 405Wp, a power increase of up to 60Wp or 17% compared with previous product generations. Module efficiency has also increased by 1% to more than 21%.

With Vertex S, Trina Solar has created a universal solution for rooftops with a high degree of performance and flexibility. The product series is designed for compatibility with existing mainstream mounting systems, optimizers and inverters for residential and commercial application. The product has a dimension of 1754mm x 1096mm and weighs at 21kg. Electrical parameters are kept within the operating limits of standard inverters. The Vertex S product family comes in three versions: the DE09, DE09.05 and DE09.08. Each of these modules has been designed to feature an easy-to-handle format and light weight for ease of rooftop mounting.

Vertex S customers benefit from improved reliability, with an upgraded product warranty of 15 years. At the same time, Trina Solar also ensures that Vertex S is a greener product by improving the production process and focusing on sustainable waste management within factories and manufacturing equipment. Due to its smaller dimensions relative to similar modules, Vertex S maximizes the number of modules that can be shipped per container, reducing carbon emissions caused by transportation. Furthermore, the new module series comes in completely recyclable wood and carton packaging.

According to Trina Solar's estimation, Vertex S is more flexible than a 158mm x 72mm product and features a higher capacity than both 158mm x 60mm and 166mm x 60mm products. Taking the 5.3m x16.7m tilting rooftop in Jinan, Shandong Province as an example, 45 pcs of Vertex S' layouts may be installed with a capacity of up to 18Kw. It has 40% more modules than 158mm x 72mm products, more than 23% capacity & power yield compared with 158mm x 60mm 340W products and approximately 9.5% more capacity and power yield than 166mm x 60mm 370W products.

CATL's Sichuan Plant Certified as World's First Zero-carbon Factory in New Energy Industry

Sichuan Contemporary Amperex Technology Limited (CATL-SC), a wholly-owned subsidiary of CATL, received the PAS 2060 certification on carbon neutrality from the world's leading testing, inspection and certification company SGS in March, making the plant the world's first zero-carbon factory in the new energy industry. Zhu Yunfeng, general manager of CATL-SC, said the plant has begun to craft the zero-carbon roadmap at the early stage of its establishment. Through continuous innovation in energy utilization, transportation, logistics, and manufacturing, the factory is able to produce more products of higher quality with less raw materials and carbon emissions. "Zero carbon" has become one of the core competencies of CATL-SC. CATL-SC has taken multiple measures to reduce carbon emissions. It has developed a trailblazing smart plant management system, which enables the interconnection of data through automatic capture of the plant system data and equipment operation data. Meanwhile, the systematic facility management platform helps to realize the safe, reliable, high-efficiency and low-carbon operation of the factory. For equipment groups with high-energy consumption, by using a global optimization algorithm, it has calculated each sub-equipment's operating parameters with the lowest total energy consumption of the system. In terms of green manufacturing, CATL-SC has built a central control and management system for digital production. Equipped with global visual management, it has significantly reduced process losses, and with the support of the AI visual inspection system, which features automatic learning and extraction of defect characteristics, it has improved the detection rate in processes such as slitting and calendaring. All the waste produced during manufacturing will be recycled, and the recovery rate of precious metals such as nickel, cobalt and manganese can reach 99.3%. CATL-SC has comprehensively upgraded the logistics chain and factory transportation by widely applying driverless logistics vehicles, electric forklifts, etc., which enables zero-carbon operation among supplier factories, raw material warehouses, processing factories, finished product warehouses, and customers' factories. At the same time, employees are encouraged to use electric vehicles and shared mobility, thus reducing their carbon footprint in all aspects of production and life. CATL-SC is located in Yibin, southwest China's Sichuan Province. Three rivers, namely the Jinsha River, Minjiang River and Yangtze River traverse the city's northern part, providing a superior natural environment, unique geographical location and abundant water resources, which enables CATL-SC to reduce 400,000 tons of carbon emissions every year as over 80% of its energy consumption comes from hydropower. Standard Solar Acquires 4.69 MW Solar + 4 MWh Storage Project from EDF Renewables, Forwards Massachusetts’ Renewable Portfolio Standard Goals

The Massachusetts town of Plymouth and the Acton Water District will soon enjoy the clean energy and savings of solar power with an innovative 4.69 megawatt (MW) solar and 4 MWh storage project. Standard Solar acquired the project from developer EDF Renewables North America. The project received an award from the state’s Solar Massachusetts Renewable Targets (SMART) program, which provides incentives for solar and storage projects. Located in Acton, Massachusetts, on land owned by the Acton Water District, the Lawsbrook Solar + Storage project will allow the Town of Plymouth and Acton Water District to benefit from discounted power and lease revenues from the solar and storage system. The project will further the Commonwealth’s solar and energy storage goals by adding clean power to the bulk electrical system while supplementing the project with a battery to discharge clean power during on-peak evening hours, reducing the need for reliance on dirtier power sources during those times. The system is expected to generate 5,866 megawatt-hours of clean energy each year, enough to power 800 average Massachusetts’ homes and offset the carbon dioxide equivalent of burning 4.5 million pounds of coal. The project is built over the W.R. Grace Superfund Site and was awarded by way of an RFP to EDF Renewables in 2018. This project makes complimentary use of one of the District’s active groundwater well fields, which serves as part of the Town’s drinking water supply. The property hosting the project is previously disturbed land from gravel extraction and is encompassed by the larger W.R. Grace Superfund Site. Due to the various environmental sensitivities on the site, permitting the project entailed receiving approvals at various levels of the federal, state and local governments. Grow Solar Jefferson Waukesha Smashes Goals, Boosts Wisconsin Renewable Energy

Organizers are proud to announce that the Grow Solar Jefferson Waukesha group buy rebate program is a huge success. Residents and businesses saw the benefits of switching to solar energy, coming together not only to reach the maximum possible rebate but also surpassing the goal by almost 100 kilowatts (kW). The Grow Solar program launched on June 15, 2021, to provide residents and businesses in the Wisconsin counties of Jefferson and Waukesha with the chance to invest in high-quality solar installations at a lower cost through volume purchasing. As more properties signed up, the rebate for all participants increased with a group goal of reaching 350kW. Grow Solar was coordinated by the Waukesha County Green Team, Heart of the City/Fort Atkinson, and Midwest Renewable Energy Association. Installations were performed by the Madison, Wisconsin, office of solar energy solution provider, All Energy Solar. Though we stopped taking applications on October 31, the first panels in the program were already installed, and we still had quite a few projects in negotiation. We were fairly sure we were going to at least reach the 350 kilowatt goal once it was all said and done. In the end, we had more participants than expected at 57 and the solar energy production will add up to 448.73 kilowatts. That's almost half a megawatt of fossil-fuel-based energy replaced with solar power!"
