POWER TO GAS IN A DECARBONIZED EUROPEAN ENERGY SYSTEM BASED ON RENEWABLE ENERGY SOURCES

July 10, 2019

The pan-European energy system is faced with the enormous challenge of lowering carbon emissions from electricity supply to nearly zero by 2050. This goes hand in hand with the need to integrate massive amounts of renewable energy sources (RES), mainly wind and solar power. The variable nature of these renewable energy sources makes it increasingly difficult to match electricity production and demand. Power-to-gas is a compelling concept that converges the existing siloed value chains of the gas and electricity sector into one energy system able to meet the challenges of a mostly renewables-based energy supply system. It entails the conversion of surplus renewable electricity into hydrogen (H2) via electrolysis.

Solar Power In Your Community

whitePaper | June 6, 2022

Installed solar photovoltaic (PV) capacity has grown rapidly in the United States over the past decade, reaching nearly 74 gigawatts-AC as of the end of 2020. Approximately one-third of this capacity (28 gigawatts) is distributed PV, including residential, community, and commercial solar installations (Davis et al. 2021). A combination of technology cost declines, federal incentives, and state policy support have driven increased deployment and enabled more communities to access the benefits of PV. Increasingly, solar is playing an important role in local plans such as resilience planning, sustainability planning, and climate action planning.

Carbon capture, utilisation, and storage

whitePaper | November 10, 2022

Containing the global rising temperatures to a 1.5 degrees increase requires lowering the CO₂ concentration in the atmosphere drastically. There are many talks to be walked in decarbonising society. Some need to be addressed individually, and others necessitate collaboration - collaboration across value chains and borders. With carbon capture, utilisation, and storage (CCUS), leaps can be taken and barriers can be broken.

10 Cleantech Trends in 2022

whitePaper | May 24, 2022

Renewables are already the cheapest source of new power generation in most markets across the world. Cost declines due to technology evolutions and rapid policy advancements have triggered new investments, leading to further capacity additions and price drops. In the case of solar PV, investors and governments have come to expect continuously lower capex. In recent years however, as the technologies have matured, the capex of solar and wind has declined at a slower pace and become subject to temporary supply chain hurdles, such as the past year’s escalating shipment costs, rising module prices and escalating steel costs.
