Repowering Opportunities Aren’t Gone with the Wind…Yet

May 23, 2018

Interest in partial repowering has increased dramatically, with 2,136 MW of partial repowering completed in 2017. In 2018, with over 15 GW of operating wind projects ripe for repowering across the US, asset owners, and developers will look to cash in on what may be the last opportunity for significant production tax credits. However, decreasing margins demand a more careful look at project capital costs, O&M, and energy production gains. With careful homework and creative strategies in a few of these key areas, projects can find continued returns in 2018.

Grid-Forming Technology in Energy Systems Integration

whitePaper | March 17, 2022

As rising numbers of inverter-based resources (IBRs) are deployed in power systems around the world, their role on the grid is changing and the services needed from them have evolved. In order to maintain grid stability and reliability, IBRs need to provide some of the services currently (or formerly) provided by synchronous generators. Interconnection standards already include requirements for IBRs to have the capability to provide some of these services—such as frequency and voltage support—and the procurement and deployment of the services can be implemented either as mandatory interconnection requirements or as market products

Rules for an Energy-Secure Global Green Hydrogen Economy

whitePaper | November 9, 2022

Hydrogen is not just another fuel. Hydrogen is expected to serve as a primary industrial fuel in the 21st century, just as coal drove the 19th century and oil drove the 20th century. Decarbonised hydrogen produced by splitting water into hydrogen and oxygen using renewable electricity (‘green’ hydrogen) or other low-carbon variants that sequester carbon emissions – could be a gamechanger in strengthening energy security and powering the energy transition.
