The Clean Power and Electrification Pathway

November 28, 2017

Climate change and air pollution pose serious threats. Climate change effects, such as sea level rise and longer, more intense heat waves, are now occurring. In California, while significant progress has been made, too many communities continue to experience asthma and other air-quality-related health issues. California continues its leadership in addressing climate change and air pollution. The state’s greenhouse gas (GHG) goals call for a 40 percent reduction in GHG emissions from 1990 levels by 2030 and an 80 percent reduction by 2050 (Figure 1). Air quality goals include a 90 percent reduction in emissions of nitrogen oxides from 2010 levels in some of the state’s most polluted areas by 2032. Meeting these ambitious clean energy and clean air goals requires fundamental changes over the next 12 years and beyond.

Foundry For Renewables

whitePaper | July 31, 2022

Changes in climate and energy policy paired with shifts in supply and demand are causing disruptions to energy systems across the globe. Renewable energy generation is at the core of this transition. Investing and empowering the energy sector to sustainably optimize performance, production, and scale must become a transformational effort to innovate for the future. Data is at the heart of this revolution. Renewable power generation is highly dependent on weather and site conditions, which are everchanging, and the process outputs large-scale data that is often difficult to integrate, visualize, or leverage.

Positive Proof for Distributed Intelligence at the Grid Edge

whitePaper | October 14, 2022

The utility industry struggles to store and analyze the ocean of data recorded by state-of-the-art distribution devices. Performing some analytics locally—within the devices themselves—promises to unlock new operational value and cost effectiveness, and the first phases of testing needed to prove that theory are now complete. Laboratory investigations showed distributed intelligence (DI) applications far surpassed the capabilities of cloud-based analytics for three common use cases on the distribution grid; and field testing confirmed the results across thousands of customer meters, while also revealing other valuable, real-world applications for the data.

Solving the Energy Trilemma

whitePaper | August 11, 2022

The global climate change summit, COP26, in November last year emphasised the urgent need to keep 1.5 degrees Celsius alive, limit global warming and push for more low-carbon power, as well as renewables. Then prices for energy began to skyrocket in Europe and Asian markets in January due to post-COVID energy bottlenecks. Finally, the recent war in Ukraine has emboldened world leaders’ to prioritise energy security and question where their imported fuels come from.
