Focusing the Sun: State Considerations for Designing Community Solar Policy

January 10, 2018

Through 2016, community solar programs in 35 states and the District of Columbia had a cumulative total capacity of 275 megawatts (MW) (O’Shaughnessy et al. 2017). To build on the recent momentum around community solar and to facilitate widespread adoption, the National Community Solar Partnership (NCSP) was launched in 2015, led by the U.S. Department of Energy (The White House 2015). The NCSP included four working groups focused on different topics associated with expanding the community solar market, including Community Building, Federal Resources, Finance, and Business Models, and State Best Practices.

Changing the current How utilities are removing barriers & energizing smart infrastructure

whitePaper | January 12, 2023

Decarbonization coupled with the rise of renewables and government mandates have put pressure on utilities to diversify their energy sources. As federal investments in renewable infrastructure increase and the dynamics in energy market policies change, utilities are poised to incorporate distributed energy resources (DERs) onto their grids like never before. The combination of Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) orders 841 and 2222 and the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) standards 1547 (2018) and 2030 (2011) stand as powerful enablers to create smart infrastructure to better balance and manage the grid of the future.

Special Report on Solar PV Global Supply Chains

whitePaper | August 25, 2022

Solar PV is a crucial pillar of clean energy transitions worldwide, underpinning efforts to reach international energy and climate goals. Over the last decade, the amount of solar PV deployed around the world has increased massively while its costs have declined drastically. Putting the world on a path to reaching net zero emissions requires solar PV to expand globally on an even greater scale, raising concerns about security of manufacturing supply for achieving such rapid growth rates – but also offering new opportunities for diversification.

The NYISO Interconnection Process

whitePaper | January 11, 2023

State and federal clean energy policies are driving an historic transition of the existing electric generating fleet in New York, including a dramatic increase in the development of clean energy projects. Mandates under the state’s Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act (CLCPA) require 70% renewable energy by 2030 and an emissions-free electric system by 2040. The Inflation Reduction Act, signed into law by President Biden in August 2022, makes $370 billion available in tax credits and incentives to speed the country’s transition to clean energy technology – the most aggressive climate related action ever taken by Congress.
