The Evolution of Distributed Energy Resources

December 31, 2018

In the words of Pittsburgh Mayor Bill Peduto, we will enter a time soon when we no longer make our morning toast with energy sent from a power plant hundreds of miles away. Peduto is describing an evolution toward a more decentralized power grid, a shifting away from electricity delivered via large central power plants and long transmission lines. While energy industry insiders are well aware of these changes, many energy consumers are not.

Cumulative Effects Analysis for Wind Energy Development: Current Practices, Challenges, and Opportunities

whitePaper | April 12, 2022

The increasing global deployment of wind energy has given rise to concerns about potential adverse effects on certain wildlife species and habitats. The United States and European nations use environmental impact assessments (EIAs) to evaluate the environmental effects of wind energy and inform wind energy planning, siting, and operational processes. A key component of the EIA is the cumulative effects analysis/assessment (CEA). CEAs consider the effects of a proposed development in the context of past, present, and future developments, as well as other (non-wind) activities.

Greenhouse gas mitigation scenarios for major emitting countries

whitePaper | October 9, 2022

Our findings suggest that emissions are on the way to reach pre-pandemic levels. Of the 25 countries analysed, emissions under current policies have increased from 36.3-36.8 GtCO2e in 2020 to 37.2- 38.1 GtCO2e in 2021; this translates to a rebound of 2.5-3.5% since the COVID-19-induced emissions dip observed in 2020. Recent estimates of global CO2 emissions suggest a rebound of between 4.2% and 6.5% in 2021 (Davis et al., 2022; Jackson et al., 2022)
