How Does A Solar Power System Work and Produce Energy?

January 29, 2019

Everyone knows that the sun is going to rise in the morning and set in the evening, and you can take advantage of its reliability when you opt for solar power. Other methods for creating energy aren’t sustainable in the long term, but you can always depend on the sun. This is particularly important in the event of extended power grid outages. I find that most solar power systems have the panels placed on the roof of a home where they can get the most possible sun during the day. You do not want them to be in the shade, as this will greatly decrease how much power you are able to produce.

Infographic: A New Global Wind Energy Atlas

Infographic | May 13, 2021

To maximize the return of investment, the design of a wind turbine is determined on the 50-year return period of sustained wind speed. Stable and consistent wind speed is one of the major determining factors when considering turbine design and wind turbine farm placement. Cornell researchers Sara C. Pryor, professor in the Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences, and Rebecca J. Barthelmie, professor in the Sibley School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, recently released a new global wind atlas—a digital compendium of sites around the world with extreme wind speeds.
