Greece Solar Energy Snapshot

July 17, 2019

Greece has been making headlines recently with its energy sector reforms and newly awoken solar PV market. The country’s solar energy capacity skyrocketed in 2013, when the country added more than 1 GW of new solar PV capacity. However, due to retroactive cuts, the market remained stagnant for years, until now. In July, 2018 the Greek government organized the country’s first official solar PV auction, where it awarded more than 100 MW of capacity spread over 91 projects. This has sparked great interest in the market, which has been generating a lot of attention from both local and international players. This solar energy snapshot will provide a comprehensive overview of the rapidly-growing solar energy market in Greece, along with key insights into its PV sector and auctions.

Leveraging advanced polyurethane resins and coatings to develop high-performance wind turbine blades

whitePaper | April 1, 2022

Covestro has applied its industrial expertise in high-tech polymer materials to develop innovative polyurethane (PU) solutions for wind turbine applications that offer performance benefits and lower blade costs. To evaluate the impact of our PU solutions for rotor blade applications, Covestro commissioned bewind GmbH, a specialist wind engineering consultancy company, to simulate the costs and benefits of these solutions in terms of production, operational performance, and turbine lifetime. The company evaluated three of our PU products: a pultrusion resin, an infusion resin, and coating raw materials for leading edge protection (LEP). The aim was to quantify the impact of Covestro polyurethane solutions compared to standard alternative products used on a typical offshore wind farm.

Positive Proof for Distributed Intelligence at the Grid Edge

whitePaper | October 14, 2022

The utility industry struggles to store and analyze the ocean of data recorded by state-of-the-art distribution devices. Performing some analytics locally—within the devices themselves—promises to unlock new operational value and cost effectiveness, and the first phases of testing needed to prove that theory are now complete. Laboratory investigations showed distributed intelligence (DI) applications far surpassed the capabilities of cloud-based analytics for three common use cases on the distribution grid; and field testing confirmed the results across thousands of customer meters, while also revealing other valuable, real-world applications for the data.
