Clean Energy Works in America

The U.S. power industry generated more than 1,450 billion kilowatt hours of emissions-free electricity in 2018, avoiding more than 960 million metric tons of carbon emissions. It’s also creating new jobs. According to the 2019 U.S. Energy & Employment Report, U.S. electric power generation and fuels sectors directly employed nearly 2 million workers in 2018—an increase of more than 4%. More than 600,000 of these jobs are now in nuclear and renewables. Nuclear produces more than half of America’s clean energy and employs more than 72,000 workers. Thirty-eight percent of the nuclear power industry is made up of women, which is the highest of any generation technology.
