2018 Federal Government Report on Energy Research

September 27, 2018

The promotion of energy research is a strategic element in any energy policy that is also designed to safeguard the future. Such funding helps to implement the Federal Government’s targets for the energy sector and climate linked to Germany’s energy transition. Federal Government funding for energy research is based on the Energy Research Programme. Funding allocated under this programme is used to support both specific projects with a limited timeframe, as well as large research communities over long periods of time.

An energy transformation plan for the climate emergency

whitePaper | January 30, 2020

This report presents one strand of the pathway to a genuinely sustainable future. It is not, as so many other reports have been, about “green growth projects”. Rather, the ambition is to propose a quite different way of life that will deliver a different kind of prosperity, one that prioritises wellbeing and builds resilience via a localised circular economy.

Securing the Energy Transition

whitePaper | January 12, 2023

Energy security and affordability present global challenges, but both are integral elements of a successful energy transition, alongside sustainability to mitigate climate change. The current energy crisis is driving inflation, slowing economic growth and contributing to social turmoil. Some choices made by countries in response to the crisis, such as improving energy efficiency and scaling renewables, will be beneficial for the wider energy transition. But other actions – including increased production of electricity from coal and broad-based consumption subsidies – put longterm energy transition imperatives at risk, while leaving those countries more vulnerable to future crises and putting global climate goals out of reach.

Positive Proof for Distributed Intelligence at the Grid Edge

whitePaper | October 14, 2022

The utility industry struggles to store and analyze the ocean of data recorded by state-of-the-art distribution devices. Performing some analytics locally—within the devices themselves—promises to unlock new operational value and cost effectiveness, and the first phases of testing needed to prove that theory are now complete. Laboratory investigations showed distributed intelligence (DI) applications far surpassed the capabilities of cloud-based analytics for three common use cases on the distribution grid; and field testing confirmed the results across thousands of customer meters, while also revealing other valuable, real-world applications for the data.
