A Wind Energy Plan that Fits America's Resources

September 28, 2017

America is blessed with long coastlines and relatively deep water. Ironically this has been a disadvantage to the US offshore wind industry. Comparatively, in England, there are over 1000 turbines already operating in the relatively shallow waters around the English Isles, and many other European countries have significant offshore wind turbine generating capacity. Yet, there is only one offshore turbine operating in the United States. This is in no small part because our shallow water is relatively close to the shoreline, meaning that it is close to people, migratory bird patterns, and within State Jurisdictions. Wind turbines for offshore electrical generating capacity are still a new industry in the United States.

Greening the Future Data Center Infrastructure via the GE Aeroderivative Technology and Microgrid Controls

whitePaper | June 15, 2022

Some data centers consume more energy than a large town or small city. But those towns and cities have time to relax and shut down. While data centers are critical infrastructure, they also run our worlds critical infrastructure – so keeping them online ca be a matter of life and death. Combine this with the continued need for more sustainable operations, renewable energy goals and objectives, and a dramatic increase for data storage services – and you have an interesting challenge. The Data Centers Industry went through a massive growth pattern in the past decade due to cloud computing transformation, hyperscale, 5G networks and other technological and socioeconomic changes. This technological evolution introduced challenges to the Data Centers owners in terms of sustainability, cost effectiveness and reliable operation. Per Seagate.com , the expected growth for data centers will go from 33 ZB in 2018 to 175 Zetabytes (1 Zetabyte = Billion Terabytes) by 2025

Greenhouse gas mitigation scenarios for major emitting countries

whitePaper | October 9, 2022

Our findings suggest that emissions are on the way to reach pre-pandemic levels. Of the 25 countries analysed, emissions under current policies have increased from 36.3-36.8 GtCO2e in 2020 to 37.2- 38.1 GtCO2e in 2021; this translates to a rebound of 2.5-3.5% since the COVID-19-induced emissions dip observed in 2020. Recent estimates of global CO2 emissions suggest a rebound of between 4.2% and 6.5% in 2021 (Davis et al., 2022; Jackson et al., 2022)
