ACCESS TO CLEAN AND EFFICIENT ENERGY IN DEVELOPING COUNTRIES

November 30, 2017

This situation is all the more concerning as access to energy is a prerequisite for economic development and the provision of basic services like lighting and heating of infrastructures, such as schools and hospital facilities, cooking and food preservation. In the words of the former Secretary-General of the United Nations (UN) Ban Ki-Moon, “Energy is the golden thread that connects economic growth, social equity, and environmental sustainability”. The implementation of the UN Sustainable Development Goal 7 (SDG7) to “ensure access to affordable, reliable and modern energy for all” is, therefore, a priority.

Decarbonizing practices in the global automotive industry

whitePaper | September 29, 2022

This whitepaper examines the current state and trajectory of decarbonization within the global automotive industry. By examining and establishing a baseline on industry action, early- mid- and long-term initiatives can be highlighted to help inform manufacturers and producers how they can engage and push themselves further towards full decarbonization. This effort also highlights the challenges and complexities in the path towards decarbonization, which is complex and layered. Industrial producers should be looking outwards to determine how to take best steps from within.

FRED ENERGY

whitePaper | June 8, 2022

Due to supply and demand, this will contribute trillions of dollars to the energy corporates but will lead to above inflation price increases for consumers. The overall effects will be felt by all of us but those most vulnerable such as low-income earners and the elderly will be unable to meet the growing energy costs causing them to fall into what is termed “fuel poverty”. Energy suppliers are forecast to move towards greener alternative energy sources and this is great news for the environment, but it will have little effect on the consumer at cost level

Is the sun shining on new energy sources?

whitePaper | January 27, 2020

Although the European Union (EU) seems to be on track to meet this year’s greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reduction target of 20% compared to 1990 levels, it is currently not projected to achieve the 2030 targets. In line with the Paris Climate Agreement of 2015, these targets relate to domestic GHG emissions, the share of renewable energy sources and energy efficiencyi . Hence, radical change is required and we all need to do our bit. With road transport accounting for approximately 20% of carbon dioxide (CO2 ) emissions in the EU alone, the mobility sector can play an important role in helping to accomplish the environmental targets.

How to make the charging infrastructure for electric vehicles smart

whitePaper | November 30, 2022

Renewable energies and the increasing emergence of electric vehicles are putting a strain on the electricity grid. The former are not constantly available, and the latter require additional energy while charging. This leads to the need for introducing a new, smart charging infrastructure to avoid instabilities at the grid level. This white paper explains what is involved in making a charging infrastructure truly “smart” and what obstacles can be expected along the way. It also outlines why vehicle owners do not need to fear batteries degradation, and which semiconductor devices and other supporting technologies Infineon provides for such applications.
