New York Municipalities Moving Toward Clean, Renewable Energy

April 30, 2019

In 2013, still rebuilding and recovering from storms Sandy, Irene, and Lee, Governor Cuomo warned that “we must not lose sight that extreme weather is now the new normal with two ‘once in a century’ storms occurring in the last two years alone.” The adverse effects of climate change include sea level rise, heat waves, and extreme weather events. It causes significant harm to public health, New York’s economy, and the State’s ecosystems.

White Paper 2021 Offshore wind power and ‘green’ hydrogen: discovering new limits of Ukraine’s generating capacity

whitePaper | April 21, 2021

The White Paper analyses the potential for offshore wind energy development in Ukraine, as well as the use of wind energy for the production of green hydrogen. The authors have presented convincing arguments in favor of the development of this energy sector and have suggested relevant changes to the Ukrainian legislation to facilitate investments in offshore wind energy and production of "green" hydrogen.

COMPETENCES FOR A SUSTAINABLE FUTURE

whitePaper | September 15, 2022

When we talk about the green shift or new tech solutions for addressing climate change, we assume, hope, and proclaim engineers and other STEM professionals as the custodians of our smooth transition towards sustainability and net-zero emissions. But we are stuck in a paradox. On the one hand, politicians and industry are sounding the alarm about the catastrophic shortage of engineers, IT, and STEM talents to address the current and future challenges. On the other hand, it is unclear what concrete competences and skills the industry needs to drive the green shift. Squeezed in between are the higher education institutions, racing against time to adapt curricula to match the skills provision with the skills demand.

24/7 Clean Power : A Climate Technology White Paper

whitePaper | June 16, 2022

Driving power sector emissions down to zero is essential to achieve a net-zero economy. The electrification of energy demand in all other sectors is only effective under the assumption that power sector emissions fall to zero. A 2017 meta analysis of power sector models found that while creating a net-zero power system based solely on variable renewable power was possible, this would require a significant overbuild of capacity to ensure reliable power supply. Power systems based solely on variable renewables were several times more expensive than systems where 80% of power was supplied by variable renewables.

Offshore wind business feasibility in a flexible and electrified Dutch energy market by 2030

whitePaper | November 15, 2022

Offshore wind is the primary supplier of CO2-free electricity moving towards decarbonising the Dutch power system. The installed capacity aims to increase sevenfold to 21.5 GW by 2030. However, the current market trends of increasing renewable capacity, industrial electrification, gas and CO2 prices, the expansion of interconnection, and the need for grid reinforcements are making the power market more volatile. These trends, together with the phasing out of subsidies, result in increasing the risks for offshore wind business.
