Resilience-enhancement through Renewable Energy Microgrid Systems in rural El Salvador

January 1, 2019

This Master thesis investigates how Renewable Energy Microgrid Systems (REMS) can enhance resilience for a rural grid-connected community in El Salvador. The study examines the optimally resilient design of a grid-connected PV-Wind-Battery hybrid energy system. The optimally resilient system configuration was determined based on energy affordability, defined as minimum net present cost (NPC) and energy reliability, which was defined as a 1% maximum annual capacity shortage. The system modelling and optimisation was performed in the HOMER software, where the system was optimised for different scenarios.

Is your organization’s journey to net zero headed down thewrong path? Here’s the sustainability safety net to get you back on track.

whitePaper | December 11, 2022

Most companies run into significant challenges on the path to net zero. Many cannot get a handle on their current sustainability performance because it’s hard to aggregate data from a myriad of sources. Others are so overwhelmed with the financials, they freeze on their path to net zero or, worse yet, they never start. Even large businesses may struggle to make upgrades to bolster their buildings’ energy efficiency or afford expensive new equipment and smart building technology. Instead, immediate budgetary needs, like paying employee salaries and product development, take precedent.

Organic Photovoltaics – Truly Green Energy: “Ultra-Low Carbon Footprint”

whitePaper | March 30, 2020

The global warming effect is unequivocal, and solar energy will play a major role in the most important battle of the 21st century: enabling increased energy consumption while minimizing the impact on our environment. In order to achieve the climate protection targets as soon as possible, the environmental impacts must be quantified and should be effectively integrated into the competitive process. TÜV Rheinland (Germany) has certified the environmental impact of the solar film HeliaSol® to be below 16 kg CO2e/m² through a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA). The result is an ultra-low carbon footprint ranging from 15 up to 3 g CO2e/kWh depending on the solar irradiation of a location.

achieving 24/7 renewable energy by 2025

whitePaper | January 2, 2023

Peninsula Clean Energy is leading the charge to fight climate change by radically transforming the electricity sector. We have one of the most aggressive renewable energy goals in the world: Providing our 310,000 residential, commercial, and industrial customers with renewable energy on an hourly basis by 2025. Over the last two years, we have built, tested, and leveraged a new 24/7 clean energy procurement modeling tool, MATCH (Matching Around-The-Clock Hourly energy), to answer the critical questions: What is the optimal 24/7 renewable energy portfolio, how much will it cost, what are the emissions reduction benefits, and what are the impacts to the broader energy system?

Energy Company Obligations: Examples of delivering energy efficiency in Buildings and future trends

whitePaper | November 15, 2019

Today more than ever, there is an urgent need to scale up progress with energy efficiency. Energy efficiency is one of the pillars of a climate mitigation strategy1. It is also a critical element to meeting the global Sustainable Development Goals and to ensuring a cost-effective transition to a reliable, low-emitting energy system. At the same time, both states have increased their ambition to transition to low-emissions sources of energy, including increased ambition on renewable energy generation and energy efficiency. As a result, the programmes in New York and California have evolved to value the wider system benefits of energy efficiency, as described below.
