SOLAR SOLUTIONS FOR UNIVERSITIES

December 20, 2018

In this white paper we explore how Ideal Energy, Inc. and Maharishi University of Management implemented a solar and battery energy storage system called the MUM Solar Power Plant to maximize the renewable energy share that could be economically delivered to the University. In particular, we discuss the decision-making process that led to the final design: a 1.1 megawatt (MW) solar field using active tracking technology paired with a 1.05 megawatt-hour (MWh) vanadium flow battery energy storage system. We also model the solar project’s output.

An energy transformation plan for the climate emergency

whitePaper | January 30, 2020

This report presents one strand of the pathway to a genuinely sustainable future. It is not, as so many other reports have been, about “green growth projects”. Rather, the ambition is to propose a quite different way of life that will deliver a different kind of prosperity, one that prioritises wellbeing and builds resilience via a localised circular economy.

Integrated Power Electronics: The Road Merges

whitePaper | December 14, 2022

As electric vehicles have rapidly matured, certain features that were never necessary for internal combustion engines have become critical to EVs’ operation: a power distribution unit; a battery disconnect unit; an electric vehicle supply equipment (EVSE) controller; a battery management system; an onboard charger; a DC-to-DC converter. The trend is reminiscent of the growth in internal combustion engines’ electrical/ electronic architectures, where each feature required an electronic control unit — a separate box that took up precious space within a vehicle chassis. Every box needed its own software, its own connectors and its own housings, all of which resulted in added complexity and cost.

The Energy Crisis

whitePaper | July 12, 2022

As we experience an energy crisis that is fueling inflation with severe impact on households and businesses all over Europe and forcing factories to curtail their production or even to shut down, citizens are asked to reduce their energy consumption while governments scramble to secure alternative fuel sources. These, however, are only short-term measures, and there is no doubt that this winter will prove taxing for many.

CPUs and Greenhouse Gases: Why Data Center Processor Selection Matters in Achieving Sustainability Goals

whitePaper | August 23, 2022

Data centers are major consumers of electricity, both for powering servers and keeping them cool. Despite the progress that large data center operators have made in improving efficiency, power demand is expected to continue to grow steadily for the foreseeable future. While hyperscale operators have made great strides in shifting to renewable energy sources, the reality is that fossil fuels generate 60% of U.S. electricity

Transferring knowledge from oil and gas and unlocking a new era of growth for renewable energy

whitePaper | November 27, 2019

The renewable energy landscape is changing. The global challenge of climate change, and the need for a secure supply of energy, means renewables are set to play an important part in the energy systems of the future. Renewable energy projects are also becoming increasingly affordable, which has led to an influx of new investment.

Proposed Garryhinch Wind Farm

whitePaper | November 30, 2022

Bord na Móna is an Irish, semi-state climate solutions company helping lead Ireland towards a climate neutral future. Bord na Móna has been serving communities for over 90 years, always rising to meet the needs of the day. It was founded in 1934 as The Turf Development Board to enhance national energy security through peat harvesting and became Bord na Móna in 1946. Today, we have radically changed our approach to face an even greater challenge: climate change. We have ended peat harvesting and now our focus is developing climate solutions in renewable energy, sustainable waste management, carbon storage and biodiversity conservation.
