The new economics of offshore wind

January 12, 2018

The volume of offshore wind in Great Britain (GB) capacity mix could be materially increased through intelligent market design and regulation, including the continuation of the Contract-for Difference (CfD) regime. Aurora has analyzed 2 policy mechanisms to achieve greater offshore wind penetration, Providing zero-subsidy CfD contracts: continuation of current government policy to provide wholesale market revenue stabilization to offshore wind projects via CfDs. To create a cost-neutral CfD, Aurora has modeled a CfD that, in future, would be set at the level of the offshore wind ‘capture price’ and therefore would result in no net subsidy payments over the 15-year term of the CfD contract.

Policy to Enable Green Hydrogen in Ireland

whitePaper | August 1, 2022

Decarbonising the transport sector has begun with the adoption of battery electric vehicles, and they will take us a long way to full decarbonisation. But commercial users tell us there are use cases where battery vehicles will not be appropriate for them. We outline policy actions that can enable hydrogen for mobility and begin to develop the wider hydrogen ecosystem in Ireland.

PLANNING MOZAMBIQUE’S OPTIMAL POWER SYSTEM EXPANSION

whitePaper | November 1, 2022

Mozambique has the largest power generation potential in the entire Southern African region thanks to its vast and largely untapped gas, hydro, wind and solar resources. Despite this huge generation potential only 38.6%1) of its population had access to electricity in 2021. The total installed power capacity in Mozambique stood at around 2,800 MW in the year 2021 whereas the peak demand reported by the state-owned energy utility Electricidade de Moçambique (EDM) was at 1,035 MW. Over 50% of the total electricity demand is originating from the capital area Maputo and the surrounding southern part of the country, while only around 20%2) of the population.

Reaching Net-Zero Carbon by 2040:Decarbonizing and Neutralizing the Use Phase of Connected Devices

whitePaper | May 20, 2022

As part of our Climate Pledge commitment to reach net-zero carbon emissions by 2040, Amazon is working to measure, reduce, and neutralize the emissions across every part of our business. For Amazon Devices, we are integrating carbon reduction strategies across the life cycle of our devices, including materials and manufacturing, transportation, use, and end-of-life phases. This paper focuses on the use phase, which accounts for 10-15% of the overall carbon footprint of rechargeable battery-operated devices and 60-80% of the footprint of plugged-in devices. We believe this phase is an important area of focus, since consumer electronics will always require some amount of electricity to operate. As the world becomes more connected even beyond consumer electronics, we believe that connectivity in itself allows us to rethink how we approach use phase decarbonization for all connected devices.
