THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN NATURAL GAS AND RENEWABLE ENERGY

The United States relies on a diverse mix of resources to generate the electricity we need and meet growing demand reliably and affordable. In 2015, America generated the majority of its electricity from coal (33 percent), natural gas (33 percent) and nuclear (20 percent) energy sources (see figure 1 below). In 2016, natural gas-fired generation is expected to supply 34 percent of electricity demand while coal will drop to 30 percent.
