THE RENEWABLE ENERGY CONTRACTOR MARKET IN EUROPE – THE POWER INDEX

September 6, 2018

In the European energy market, the shift towards renewables is gathering pace. The deadline for reaching the EU’s target of producing 20% energy from renewable sources by 2020 is fast approaching acting as a massive boost to the renewables jobs market. Member states are having to invest heavily in new technologies and infrastructure to deliver cleaner energy and reduce reliance on traditional fossil fuel sources in order to meet their individual targets. Other non-EU members, though not bound by targets, are doing likewise.

As a transporter of energy, we operate the world’s longest and most complex crude oil and liquids transportation system across Canada and the U.S. As a distributor of energy, we own and operate Canada’s largest natural gas distribution company, serving more than two million customers in Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, and New York State. As a generator of energy, we have invested over $3-billion in wind, solar, geothermal, waste heat recovery, and other alternative energy technology projects – all of which have the capacity to generate more than 1,800 megawatts (MW) of zero-emission energy, and provide enough electricity to supply nearly 600,000 homes. We also have a significant and growing natural-gas gathering, transmission, and midstream business (transporting about 15 per cent of Texas natural gas production), and an increasing involvement in power transmission. We employ more than 11,000 people, primarily in Canada and the U.S., and have been named one of Canada’s Top 100 Employer

Facebook's U.S. Renewable Energy Impact Study

whitePaper | June 1, 2021

In 2011, Facebook was one of the first companies to commit to supporting its facilities with 100% renewable energy. Today, the company’s U.S. data center fleet is supported by 100% renewable energy, and Facebook is on track to maintain this commitment for future data center developments and expansions. Facebook’s ability to achieve this commitment is in large part due to its pioneering approach to renewable energy procurement, which to date has resulted in 55 new solar and wind projects adding 5,763 megawatts (MW) of clean electricity to the U.S. grid.

Transitioning Industrial Clusters towards Net Zero: National Policy Enablement for Industrial Decarbonization

whitePaper | October 11, 2022

As nations worldwide continue to develop and industrialize at a pace never before seen, the demand for products like cement, chemicals, coal, oil and gas, and steel – or their substitutes – is rapidly growing. Often these hard-to-abate sectors are geographically co-located in so-called industrial clusters, hubs or zones. To address an urgent need for scaled decarbonization in these industries, strong policy support is needed with a particular focus on the transition of these CO2 -emitting industrial areas across all nations, independent of industry mix or development stage.
