What digitalization can do to alleviate the energy crisis

What digitalization can do to alleviate
As we experience an energy crisis that is fueling inflation with severe impact on households and businesses all over Europe and forcing factories to curtail their production or even to shut down, citizens are asked to reduce their energy
consumption while governments scramble to secure alternative fuel sources. These, however, are only short-term measures, and there is no doubt that this winter will prove taxing for many.

Leveraging advanced polyurethane resins and coatings to develop high-performance wind turbine blades

whitePaper | April 1, 2022

Covestro has applied its industrial expertise in high-tech polymer materials to develop innovative polyurethane (PU) solutions for wind turbine applications that offer performance benefits and lower blade costs. To evaluate the impact of our PU solutions for rotor blade applications, Covestro commissioned bewind GmbH, a specialist wind engineering consultancy company, to simulate the costs and benefits of these solutions in terms of production, operational performance, and turbine lifetime. The company evaluated three of our PU products: a pultrusion resin, an infusion resin, and coating raw materials for leading edge protection (LEP). The aim was to quantify the impact of Covestro polyurethane solutions compared to standard alternative products used on a typical offshore wind farm.

Sustainable power grids

whitePaper | January 9, 2023

Stricter environmental and safety regulations, pressure to shift to green energy sources, and a retiring workforce all present significant challenges for today’s power grid operators. Transmission and distribution companies must create a more resilient, dynamic grid, capable of handling increased load and the complexity that distributed energy resources (DERs) will add. New digital tools that enable operators to collect and organize data can help transmission and distribution companies face these challenges by addressing three major imperatives.

How to make the charging infrastructure for electric vehicles smart

whitePaper | November 30, 2022

Renewable energies and the increasing emergence of electric vehicles are putting a strain on the electricity grid. The former are not constantly available, and the latter require additional energy while charging. This leads to the need for introducing a new, smart charging infrastructure to avoid instabilities at the grid level. This white paper explains what is involved in making a charging infrastructure truly “smart” and what obstacles can be expected along the way. It also outlines why vehicle owners do not need to fear batteries degradation, and which semiconductor devices and other supporting technologies Infineon provides for such applications.

FRED ENERGY

whitePaper | June 8, 2022

Due to supply and demand, this will contribute trillions of dollars to the energy corporates but will lead to above inflation price increases for consumers. The overall effects will be felt by all of us but those most vulnerable such as low-income earners and the elderly will be unable to meet the growing energy costs causing them to fall into what is termed “fuel poverty”. Energy suppliers are forecast to move towards greener alternative energy sources and this is great news for the environment, but it will have little effect on the consumer at cost level

The NYISO Interconnection Process

whitePaper | January 11, 2023

State and federal clean energy policies are driving an historic transition of the existing electric generating fleet in New York, including a dramatic increase in the development of clean energy projects. Mandates under the state’s Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act (CLCPA) require 70% renewable energy by 2030 and an emissions-free electric system by 2040. The Inflation Reduction Act, signed into law by President Biden in August 2022, makes $370 billion available in tax credits and incentives to speed the country’s transition to clean energy technology – the most aggressive climate related action ever taken by Congress.

Solar Power In Your Community

whitePaper | June 6, 2022

Installed solar photovoltaic (PV) capacity has grown rapidly in the United States over the past decade, reaching nearly 74 gigawatts-AC as of the end of 2020. Approximately one-third of this capacity (28 gigawatts) is distributed PV, including residential, community, and commercial solar installations (Davis et al. 2021). A combination of technology cost declines, federal incentives, and state policy support have driven increased deployment and enabled more communities to access the benefits of PV. Increasingly, solar is playing an important role in local plans such as resilience planning, sustainability planning, and climate action planning.
