The Cerro Dominador concentrated solar power (CSP) project in Chile’s Atacama Desert hit a milestone this week when the receiver was raised and installed at the top of the tower. The 2,300-tonne solar receiver was assembled at the base of the tower, then placed inside the tower’s cavity and lifted to a height of 220 metres (721.8 ft) using 16 hydraulic jacks.
