US utility Alliant Energy Corp has revealed its intention to file a rate plan with state regulators in the second quarter of 2020 for the first phase of what promises to be a 1,000MW solar project in Wisconsin state, set for multi-phase development in 2023. Alliant has said it is also “watching closely” legislative initiatives that suggest that the neighbouring state of Iowa may be “early in the process” of building out solar generation. Alliant’s regulated utility subsidiary Interstate Power & Light Co. already has a significant wind generation fleet in the state. “We’re putting renewable energy to work for our customers by advancing our renewable energy investments and preparing the energy grid for more distributed energy resources,” Alliant Energy Chairman, President and CEO John Larsen told analysts in discussing the company’s fourth-quarter 2019 financial results.
