Facebook Announces 100% Renewable Energy Plans

Today, Facebook announced a commitment to power its global operations with 100% renewables, as well as reduce its greenhouse-gas emissions by 75%, by the end of 2020. Since its first purchase of wind in 2013, according to a company update, Facebook has signed contracts totaling 3 GW of new solar and wind power, including 2.5 GW in the past 12 months alone. Facebook notes that the projects are “new and on the same grid as [its] data centers.” “We bring an open and innovative approach to finding renewable energy solutions that fit our needs and can move energy markets forward,” the company says.
